MSN:

Round 1, Pick 32: Oregon WR Troy Franklin

Assuming that Marquez Valdes-Scantling will be released for salary-cap reasons, the Chiefs need to find themselves a deep threat at the wide receiver position.

Oregon WR Troy Franklin has near-effortless acceleration and deep speed, but he's also so much more than a deep threat. Kansas City used a ton of comeback routes during the 2023 NFL season, and that happens to be one of the routes that Franklin is best at. The way that he's able to sink his hips and get turned around as a "bigger" wide receiver is quite nice. Franklin is elusive with the ball in his hands, forcing 14 missed tackles in 2023. That's as many forced missed tackles as Marvin Harrison Jr. and Ladd McConkey combined.

A to Z Film Room's James Foster also seems to think that Franklin is a fit for K.C., but he does have a few concerns. Listed at 187 pounds, Franklin is extremely light for the NFL. We've seen players like DeVonta Smith and Tutu Atwell find some measure of success at sub-190 pounds, but they're also 6-foot-2 like Franklin. Ideally, he shows up to the combine over 190 pounds and can get closer to 195 points as the NFL season begins.

One thing on Franklin that I don't think has been said is that he's very young. Dude just turned 21 a couple weeks ago. He was 20 this past season, and one of the best WRs in all of college football.

Oh I would love Franklin too. 6'2"-6'3", 180-190 pounds, rumored to run a 4.35 40 time, and he's not a one year wonder. It'd be nice to get him close to 200 pounds. He produced in pretty much every single game this past year and was extremely consistent.

There are just so many WRs in this year's class that we have to walk away with one of the top guys. I'm so excited for this year's draft.

To staylor's point I think him being young makes you feel confident he can add a bit more to that frame. There's no reason to think he's physically maxed out. Really hope we get him.

Growing up, Franklins favorite team was the Chiefs. What more needs to be said?

Franklin's my favorite right now, if we're doing this in round one.
I like Mitchell and Worthy both.

If it's round 2, I like Devontez Walker.

If it's round 3, Brendan Rice.

Just my favs.

No Leggette. Something is wrong there. 5th year senior does nothing in years 1-4? I mean NOTHING. Like less than Skyy Moore nothing. And suddenly he's Megatron. I don't like it.

Smells a bit fishy.

But I think there's a case to make for the opposite. Guys like Legette, Cowly, and OT J. Foster coming in to the league as 5th year seniors might be more mature and ready to contribute to now. We need guys that will be capable of contributing to a 3-peat next year, not a 2-3 yr development plan like a FAU.

Curious what you guys think about that?

Franklin being that young is a real indicator for Veach I would bet

Xavier Worthy is still only 20 years old too.

They both check all the boxes.

I'm convinced one will be a Chief.

Good pull on that staylor. That would probably give them a leg up over some of the older guys

Mahomes is going to have a say in who he wants, especially when the rookies start going to his camp in Texas.

My strongest conviction is that Mooney will be a Chief and fill that role. He's perfect for us and we're perfect for him.

I think WR is gonna be addressed in rd 2

I'm starting to agree with this sentiment as well, I think we find a value contract WR in FA and take one in the 2nd. I'm hoping for a slightly bigger splash than Mooney, though, someone like M. Brown or T. Lockett.

No need to be cheap now, we're going for a 3-peat.
