Due to the wheelings and dealings of Dorsey and Veach, it can be easy to be confused about what picks the Chiefs have and where.
Normally, teams get 7 picks, one in each round:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
However:
The Chiefs spent their 1st rounder this year, moving up for QB Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft's 1st round.
They also spent their 5th rounder this year trading for backup swing tackle Cam Erving out of Cleveland.
They also spent their 6th in an effort to trade off CB Marcus Peters.
They also spent their 7th this year in a trade last year for CB Kenneth Acker from the 49ers.
That leaves us here:
1.
2.
3.
4. 5.
6.
7.
The Chiefs likely have several picks coming in, however:
The Chiefs have acquired a 3rd rounder when they traded off Alex Smith.
The Chiefs have received a 2018 4th and a 2019 2nd when they traded off Marcus Peters.
The Chiefs have received a 6th round compensatory pick for Nick Foles.
The Chiefs traded CB Marcus Cooper last season for a conditional 7th this year.
The Chiefs traded backup DE David King to the Titans for a conditional 7th rounder.
That leaves us here:
2. 3. <---- Smith trade
3.
4. 4. <---- Peters trade 6. <---- Foles compensatory
7. <---- King conditional
7. <---- Cooper conditional
And that, right there, is currently what the Chiefs 2018 NFL Draft looks like. (Though I'd bet anything that Veach will move all over the place on the 3rd day of the draft.)
The Chiefs have also made a pair of trades that affect the 2019 NFL Draft:
The Chiefs received a 2019 2nd round pick in the trade of CB Marcus Peters.
The Chiefs traded a 2019 4th rounder to the Buffalo Bills for ILB Reggie Ragland.
The Chiefs also traded WR Rod Streater for the 49ers for a conditional 7th round swap of draft picks (i.e. since it's very likely the Chiefs will be better than the 49ers in 2018, they'll have a lower draft pick in 2019 -- so if Streater met whatever conditions the teams set, their draft picks will swap).
This leaves the 2019 Chiefs Draft currently looking like this:
1.
2. 2 (Peters).
3. 4.
5.
6. 7 (Streater). 7.
Don't get used to it. If there's anything we know about this Veach kid, it's that he does not sit on his laurels. [Reply]

I’m sure 2018 3rd, 4th and 2nd next season maybe more. If it happened, it’d be a late first in which someone fell who KC is in love with. So, that team moving out of round 1 would get another 3, 4 and 2019 2nd rounder or something. Just off the top of my head [Reply]

What do you think would be required to swap the 2019 second round pick with a second round this year. 2019 2nd + 2018 6th? 7th? Worth it? [Reply]
Edited to take the Isaiah Battle conditional off the board. Apparently Battle did not do enough in Seattle to warrant a conditional 7th rounder for the Chiefs. [Reply]
I'm not really sure the trade would be valid without any type of compensation. It is possible that it is actually a 2019 pick and misreported. I don't know. Normally when a "conditional 7th" is announced it means "7th that could move to a 6th based on playing time, etc" and not "a sweat sock unless he starts all year, then we'll give you a bag of cheetos." Apparently, the 6th round Comp Pick for Foles was traded to the Rams, then included in the Quinn trade to the Dolphins.
In my research of the draft...most good players in the NFL come in picks 1-100. It’s like a wall that any pick after 100 is any good. There are exceptions of course. [Reply]
I hate not having a single pick in the first 50. At least they have 3 between 50-100. That's where Veach should find his value. Safety and corner with all 3 of those picks would suit me fine. Maybe a DL if one fell to us there. [Reply]

I don't hate it for one single second. I would much rather have Mahomes and no 1st rounder than have Smith and a 1st rounder. [Reply]

Oh, I am thrilled to have Mahomes instead of that pick. I was just hoping to get back into the first round somehow. Getting 23 overall for Peter's would have been nice. Ugh! I still hate how little we got for him. [Reply]
