Media Center>Game of Thrones Seasons 7-8
keg in kc 02:23 PM 05-24-2017
About to hit the 5000 post mark on the old thread, the first season 7 trailer today seems like the right time to start the final Game of Thones thread.

I'm going back to the original rules pre-2015. I don't think we need supervision or bannings. Just don't be a dick. Post anything you find online that hasn't aired yet inside of spoiler tags. That's pretty much it. I think we can all handle that...

For future us, 2015 thread is here: Link

And with that, GOT has jumped the fucking shark.

That was an AWFUL episode. Completely and wholly a plot device that required every single character to become really really stupid. The ENTIRE premise was designed to do nothing more than get a Dragon north of the wall so that that the Walkers have one. Meanwhile, to get to that point required that every person involved in the plan become a goddamn idiot.

Why didn't they ride horses? Oh that's right, because had they rode horses, they just flip their Walker on the back and ride away. No dragons, no problems. Nope, had to not only have a stupid plan, but had to execute it poorly.

Additionally, the entire show - ALL of it - now requires on Sam coming up with some dues ex machina to save everyone because we now know that even the damn Dragons are a mere annoyance to the a guy that has land to air javelins that can wipe out a dragon in one shot. So Dany and crew have one single advantage now - one more dragon in a battle where we know the big bad guy can essentially KILL a dragon and make it one of his own by just hitting it with a goddamn rock.

Oh, and why didn't he just hit Drogon - y'know, the stationary one that was closer and had everyone sitting on top of it? Oh, that's right - shitty writing again. If he does that, the show's over. So nope, he's gonna throw it at a moving target that's further away. But hey, I guess it's a good thing they just happened to know where a bunch of anchor chains could be found...buried under a frozen wasteland somewhere. Sure, that makes sense.

And hey guys, Benjen's back! Convenient. Oh wait, now he's dead again. That was useful; guess we needed to tie that one off. Oh and they spent several minutes actually making Brienne/Tormund cannon out of pure fan service. Tyrion went from clever, calculating fun and virtually indispensable to a pleading, largely ineffectual whiner.

And that doesn't even get into Arya evidently becoming extremely stupid just so we can keep dragging out Littlefinger's arc instead of just !@#$ing killing him like Martin would've done 4 episodes ago.

That was, without question, the worst episode in the history of this show and every single crack and flaw that we could see popping through in previous episodes came screaming through. D&D are SHITTY writers. They don't have Martin feeding them the story anymore and they've turned it into complete ass. The characters get more one-note and cliched every week. The story gets less in-depth and more predictable with every scene. They're doing things just for the sake of keeping the internet happy (or, as was the case with the return of virtually the entire stupid party, not making the internet mad).

This was the first time I've watched this show and just wanted it to be over. They're just reacting at this point - they complex characters, the vast, in depth worlds; even some of the history - they've just shit on it and done away with it. This is as brainless as some idiot show you'd see on the SciFi network.

True Blood-Westeros.

Not to mention the Nights King and his entire leadership council all assembled in one spot in plain view. All Snow has to do is tell Danny to focus all fire on them and the war is over.

Funny enough, I actually had a line in there asking when the fairies and werepanthers would show up before I deleted it (and a few other gripes in a post that already seemed way too long).

DaFace got it right much faster than I did - this show just got real ordinary, real fast.

The director of the episode, Alan Taylor, hears fan questions about just how Davos knew which raven would fly the fastest, admitting to Variety that the timeline’s “getting a little hazy.”

You are aware this it television and not stuff that is happening in the real world right? Good lord man, drink some bleach or something if you have to take a TV show so literal and look for plot holes.

There's looking for plotholes, and there's having potholes being thrust in front of you in flashing pink neon signs. It was a fun episode to watch mindlessly, but Goddamn the plot induced stupidity and armor was extreme this week.

You are aware that it's BAD television, right?

They set the bar for themselves with a genuinely good show. Now it's just the same ol' shit.

This was inescapably awful. The first few episodes lended themselves to your criticism - there were plot holes but nothing that was just beating you over the head. This episode (and the lead up to it), OTOH, was just abysmal.

You're welcome to dedicate an hour of your weekend to something and then not give a damn if it's schlock or not - I'm not inclined to do so.

And they're doing it exclusively to keep teasing out a Littlefinger's arc, which has clearly run out of steam. He's trapped in Winterfell where he can't really effectuate anything. Martin's creative enough to have figured out a way to get him and the Knights of the Vale out of there to actually do something. And if he can't figure out a way to do that, he'd have just killed Littlefinger off.

But this whole 'ret-conning a character' or just flat making her stupid for the sake of an exhausted character arc is just terrible, terrible writing.

That the thought occurred to both of us would be amusing if it weren't so sad.

I can't find much to gripe about in your post. The writers are really starting to piss me off. Who would of thought it would take years to write a good script :-)

It'd help if the shows main writer didn't decide to do **** all for 6+ years. They adapted his work just fine.

Yeah, Martin kinda fucked his fans here.

Again.

Because while D&D aren't great writers, they did do a fantastic job of adapting his work. They're more like great editors than they are truly great creative minds.

And man is it showing now.
