Media Center>Time again for a new phone
Dartgod 08:28 PM 07-14-2013
So I'm eligible to upgrade my cell phone again August 1st. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S2 through Sprint and was ready to get the S4. Now I see that LG is set to release their Optimus G2 sometime in August.

I've never considered LG, but I'm intrigued by what I've read.

Has anyone else looked at this and is it worth waiting another month or so for the LG?

Also, does anyone in the KC area have any experience with Sprint's LTE 4G? Is coverage still spotty?

I've also seen lots of rumors about the X+1, but no firm release date, so I'm not sure if it'd be worth waiting or not.
I've used the Moto X and really like it. It doesn't feel like a giant phone, either.

I just upgraded from my flip phone last year. I like my blackberry and refuse to get a smart phone.

I admit feeling a twinge of need when I needed google maps walking around downtown KC yesterday, but a friendly stranger steered me in the right direction.

One of these days I MIGHT get a smart phone, but I just don't see a need for it right now. I'm on the computer enough as it is. I don't need one when I'm away from home.

Also, a Blackberry is a smartphone.

Why don't you want a 'smartphone'?

I can't use apps on it like an iPhone, so it's not exactly the same. This is my phone.

It's not that I don't want one, but they're expensive, and I really can't justify the cost for what I would use it for. I pretty much only use my phone for calls and texts.

I don't believe in signing contracts for phone service. I use pay-as-you-go service, which is cheap and convenient for me since I hate talking on the phone.

I probably spend about $100 a year for phone service.

Gotcha. I was amazed at how cheap straight voice/SMS ran when I picked up a pre-paid burner SIM for a project a few weeks ago.

BlackBerry has App World similar to iPhone and Android.

I'm always on the road. I'd go nuts without a smartphone and data.

Cool. I'm definitely leaning that way.

It's not convenient to use. In fact it's a piece of shit and the data rates using it kill me.
