SO my son wants to play fortnite on VR. He has been playing it on XBOX One up to now and I wanted to get him something for christmas. I just updated my phone to the Pixel 3 and he gets my Galaxy S7.
My questions are I know that some headsets like the Samsung Gear are great but I own one and the phone got really hot after using it only for a short while. What is the best headset for heat dissipation that allows continuous use, allows the use of a Galaxy S7 (which supposed to have fortnite available for download on it), and best way to accomplish him being able to play fortnite on VR. We have the consoles Xbox One and PS4 however I think they aren't true virtual reality, only the "movie theater" experience...Want true VR in gameplay. [Reply]
:-)...that is interesting thought however this is truly for my 10 year old son to play fortnite on VR...he has this up at the top of his list behind only a mahomes jersey (which I already bought) [Reply]
The problem I see with the PS4 is I think that it isn't true vr and only gives the viewer the experience of seeing it in "movie theater" mode...I have seen through different blogs and videos where the true vr mode works with phones however the galaxy s7 overheats a lot when using it with my original Samsung Gear VR Headset so I don't know if there is one better than an other? The gaming systems would be ideal but the phone ones would allow him to take it on the road with him too...You would think this would be easier to find out [Reply]
I have the psvr and the oculus rift. The psvr is a great experience, as it doesn’t require a strong pc rig to run, but still provides an excellent vr experience with games like Skyrim, rush of blood, and resident evil. The rift is much more powerful, and when you use the 3 cameras and the touch controllers gives an unbelievable 360 vr experience. I love both, and believe everyone should have the chance to try true vr at some point, but wouldn’t invest in anything below the psvr experience. Psvr, Occulus, or Vive are the only true vr choices I’d consider this holiday season. [Reply]
Appreciate the heads up...Surprised how popular fortnite has got that it hasn't more attention in regards to playing in vr. I am considering oculus rift to be honest...I have a gaming rig but just sucks it all has to be at home and not something you can take "on the road" with you [Reply]

It’s really simple why it hasn’t. Fortnite is a FPS with pvp, and a lot of people at once. VR is taxing on the graphics card, requires a lot of network bandwidth to provide an immersive experience, and hasn’t solved the movement vr sickness issue many experience. Fortnite would have people puking and sick as a dog if it was even possible to have a large enough user base to gain any return on investment given the base system demands and internet bandwidth required to have 100 players in VR at once. There’s zero reason given their success in its current form to go VR at this time, wouldn’t be a profitable venture. [Reply]

I have an Oculus Rift. I think it is the beginning of the next trend in gaming, and has given me th best experiences this year. If you want something to take onto the road, look into the Oculus Quest:

RoboRecall is a free game and still blew my mind. Heck even flying around google earth vr like Superman is an amazing experience. What other games are you playing on the rift? [Reply]
