Fairly irrelevant considering our land mass is the size of their entire continent and as Monticore mentioned, we are more like 50 individual countries. ****ing Constitution.

The stats I see use the EU in models. The total population of the EU is aprox 440 million.

Just curious, how would you measure the severity of a contagious disease in countries with different populations?

In your opinion, which country is doing a better job mitigating the damage:

Country A, population of 10,000,000 with 800,000 deaths

or

Country B, population of 1,000,000 with with 200,000 deaths?

The Mercator projection distorts the size of the the US relative to its actual size when compared to other countries. Relatively speaking, we are a not so big country, actually.

So what states are counting "Probable" cases as true cases now?

Don't these numbers seem ridiculously inflated?

Not really. We have hundreds of millions of people. Even now we've yet to have 1% of people in this country officially test positive. Obviously the actual numbers are higher but it's not like the numbers appear inflated. If anything, the cases and deaths are undercounted. It's what happens when you have a really contagious disease and a country that isn't prepared for it. They're almost surely going to go back and figure out more deaths as we learn how the virus behaves. When it first started, people thought it was a lung thing and weren't watching for kidney failure or strokes, etc.

You could cut the US reported cases in half and it's still a ridiculous number compared to where the EU is currently at.
