I would have liked to have seen a good Triple A outfielder, or pitcher, not some double A player that they probably don't really need."

Yeah that guy was mad we didn't get ML ready talent for Homer. A good AAA OF or Pitcher for Homer Bailey lol.

"I am not in the baseball business.. but this makes no sense to me *"

"Dayton got hosed again. Looks like a infield version of Brett Phillips."

Most cringe-worthy quote comes from some old lady. The next 5 quotes are from old ladies, that very clearly have no clue about anything.

Most Cringe-worthy

"Homer Baliey where always be a KC Royal to me I will miss seeing U pitch I can't watch today's game at all so sad that they did this to U love U always HOMER BALIEY
"

"WHY would the Royals trade a starting pitcher for a minor league in fielder? Our team is struggling with the bull pen, we need better pitchers! Sorry to see you go Homer, Good Luck!"

"Just when we finally get a little something going, let’s stick a pin in it and deflate the entire team, and the few fans they have left."

"I think we need pitching more than an infielder."

"Well I mean. We *really* need another infielder.
"

The outrage on Facebook because we traded Homer Bailey is hilarious. KC loves getting attached to shitty baseball players.

Facebook reaction to trades never lets you down. That’s not a Royals phenomenon either. Pretty universal.

Also: now that Phillips has turned his season around, place me firmly in the camp of wanting to play Merrifield at 1B, and roll with Gordon - Starling - Phillips in the OF as a regular configuration.

Yuck. Why would you put Merrifield at 1B when he has + defensive value at other positions? I would hope on any team 1B is where you put the fat guy who can hit.

Let Gordon walk. He serves no purpose going forward for this team. We aren't going to be winning anything anytime soon, young guys or bust.

Wait people are pannimg getting a lottery ticket for Homer Bailey? Hes at best a below average pitcher that is having an anomaly of a year that even being an anomaly is average and a guy that wont play to the future. This was the best situation you could ask for when signing him to a minor league contract.

What's funny is people are ticked because they won't trade Whit, yet when they did and didn't get decent value back because no one trades top prospects anymore, those people would lose their mind.

I’m just trying to get everyone in the lineup. They’re not going to release Gordon outright (nor do I really think they should) and Merrifield can slide over to 1B at the expense of Duda (who can kindly get the fuck out).

The purposes he serves are as follows:

1) he’s not blocking anyone right now (except Lucas Duda, who can kindly get the fuck out)
2) he’s the exact kind of veteran you do want around young players. He works hard, plays hard, has experienced lows and highs.
3) He’s one of the best players in team history and can block any trade they try. There’s a “good faith” value to both fans and his younger teammates to keeping him around.

If your plan is to move Merrifield to 1st base, surely your plan would be to just trade his ass

Yep. I'd take O'hearn at first and whatever you can get for Merrifield.

For the rest of this season, not for his whole career. And he’d still be able to move around this season.

I’m fine with trading Merrifield if you can get the return they need.

Next year, Merrifield plays LF as a primary spot but still bounces around.

Getting anything more than a bag of dicks for Homer Bailey is a win.

I hate to be the bad guy, but you're going to feel like an idiot if you trade Whit and it turns out Lopez can't hack it at the plate in the majors.

If you get a legit Adam Eaton type return, then yeah pull the trigger. But just trading Whit just because is not a good idea.

That’s not being the bad guy. That’s taking an intelligent and nuanced approach to the situation.

Is the "return they need" an entire pitching staff?
