I agree he’s getting better but goddamn 2018 was so much fun. It was amazing to see Pat kill it every week destroying defenses.

Part of that is we have a defense now but another part seems to be that teams have a better understanding of him and are trying like hell to limit downfield passing.

People watch him and think he's not playing up to his own standards but the actual analysis shows differently.

2018
ESPN QBR - 80.3
QB Rating - 113.8

2019
ESPN QBR - 77.7
QB Rating - 105.3

2020
ESPN QBR - 84.9
QB Rating - 109.8

And a random stat to show it as well:

2018 INT % - 2.1
2019 INT % - 1.0
2020 INT % - 0.4

He's getting better. It's pretty clear.
Yeah, I've looked at the stats. Surprisingly to me.

Some of that IMO, is that they aren't as aggressive. IMO.

Some stats will be down, but barring injury, this guy is going to keep improving his game and be the GOAT we all know he is.
In 18 he spoiled us with the gaudy numbers, but he had to sling it all over the place because he knew the defense couldn't stop anyone. Similar to what Russell Wilson is having to do this season. I like the maturation he has shown in realizing that he doesn't need to play hero ball all the time to win games with this team built the way it is.

They don't have to be. That 2018 defense was historically bad.

Have you already forgotten how bad the 2018 defense was?

For sure.

And I agree it's probably smart. Selfishly, I still wanna see it!

I've sat on it for a while too. I think in the long run of this season, it'll be smart to show what they're doing now. They've gotta be able to destroy teams when they try to be aggressive defensively, which we know they can, but being able to slow play it is nice.

This 100%

Look, Russell Wilson has been amazing this year, because he has to be. When every game is a shootout it's fun as hell to watch, great for fantasy football, but in reality that team has a major flaw.

Patrick's regular season numbers no longer matter.

All that matters are playoff numbers.

Oh yeah, Seattle as constructed has no chance to win a SB. They'll probably win 13 games or so, but it's not gonna matter. They can't get stops.

I saw how that plays out in January 2019.

Eh a Dee Ford offsides penalty away is far from “no chance”.

As long as Wilson is playing at that level, they absolutely have a chance. And I know people want to put the Bucs in the SB already, but I’m not convinced they’d beat Seattle.

Seattle ain't beating the Bucs in a shootout. The Bucs can get stops. Seattle can't.

That Chiefs team could atleast rush the passer. This Seattle team can't do shit on defense. They may win a playoff game if Russ just goes ham, but they aren't beat 2 or 3 good teams to win a SB with that defense.

People criticized Brady for not putting up “numbers” like Brees and Manning

They forgot that he played outdoors and had a better defense. He didn’t need to throw 4 touchdown passes a game like Brees did. Brady would throw for 270 and 3TD in a win, Brees 5TD 360 in a loss.

This led to the narrative that Brees was actually better than Brady...this was never the case. The job of the quarterback is to guide a team to championships, and no one has been better at this than Brady. The Patriots didn’t allow teams to score more than 20 a game, so Brady wasn’t forced to carry the Patriots—until he had to, and he often did, carrying them in big moments in the Super Bowl.

Stats are nice to look at but never tell the whole story. Mahomes doesn’t need to put up the craziest regular season numbers as long as he’s doing whatever it takes to get us wins in the playoffs.

The only quarterback to win a Super Bowl throwing 40 or more touchdown passes in the regular season was 1999 Kurt Warner with 41, and that team feasted on a weak schedule
