This guy is intriguing and could be another Swiss Army Knife type of player for Spags. If Sorenson gets cut, this is the type of player you can draft to fill that role, and he's much, MUCH, more athletic than Sorenson. Lots of draft pundits are saying he can play off-ball linebacker at the NFL level. He's 6' 1" 217lbs.
Right now, it looks like he'll be available at the end of the second round/beginning of the third. He's a "sleeper" pick because he played D-II ball. His tape is fun because he completely outclasses everyone else on the field athletically and he returned kicks. He's been called, "one of the best pure athletes in the 2020 NFL Draft."
His role would be a lot different than Thornhill or Mathieu. Ben Niemann played 400 defensive snaps this year. Sorensen played 563 and could be cut this year to clear cap room. This guy might be able to play both of those roles, but unlike Niemann and Sorenson, he's an athletic freak.
I could see Spags falling in love with his versatility, but he is raw. [Reply]
They had this kid on SiriusXM NFL channel the other day. I was thinking how good of a fit he would be in KC as wet. I believe that he's an engineering major as well. Really smart. I'll be watching to see where he ends up going [Reply]

After digging on him a little more, I definitely like the idea of playing him at LB in subs while he grows into a WLB full time.
I don’t think he’ll make it to 63, but he would be a solid pick there. [Reply]
Why does anyone think we'd cut Sorenson? His cap number next year is $4.7M, with $1M in dead money. Saving $3.7M is peanuts considering he's spent 6 years learning the chiefs system and is still an effective play maker. Creating another void at safety for that little in cap space doesn't make any sense at all.
He's a FA after next year. It's more realistic Veach lets his contract run out and he becomes a FA after the 2020 season. [Reply]

I tend to agree but depends how much money we need to find. [Reply]

Honestly, I love the idea of getting Gladney and him with our first 2 picks, though I don’t think it’s likely that he makes it to 63. We would be adding a lot of speed with those 2. [Reply]

I hope we keep Sorenson, and I think we probably do. He's versatile, great on special teams, and has proven his worth. With that said, there are only 3 players you could realistically think about cutting that provide a larger cap savings than Sorenson.
Sammy Watkins: $14 million in cap savings
LDT: $5 million in cap savings
Damien Wilson: $4.5 million in cap savings
Daniel Sorenson: $3.75 million in cap savings
If the Chiefs hit on a player like Dugger and believe he can step in right away and play Sorenson's role, it becomes more likely that he'll be cut. [Reply]
