In the first RDR you could do all the boring BS at the beginning of the game and, basically, be superman throughout the rest of the story mode. In RDR2 you can't upgrade your cores to their full ability until after you've finish the game.

I seem to be avoiding moving forward in the story until I can upgrade Arthur to replicate the kind of bad ass I want to play as but it doesn't seem that's going to be possible.
I'm not much of a story guy. Is there plenty to do in free roam or do you have to grind through story mode to unlock more things in the game? [Reply]
There are plenty of random events and other things to do in free roam, (hunting, robbing, killing, etc..), although, I'd imagine the random events would repeat over time.
The world doesn't open up until the start of Chapter 2 so you'd have to slog through some story at the beginning. And at Chapter 2 you only have half of the map to play in. As far as I understand, you need to be close to finishing the story to open up the other half. [Reply]
I'm only an hour or two in...but I did the gold glitch and now I'm forced to hold onto 30 bars of gold because I haven't opened up the places I can sell it at.

Nah. That’s both inaccurate (you can kill with headshots from pretty much any gun) and contrary to the evolving story of the game. [Reply]

That guy isn't actually shooting people in the head. You can one shot people with a .22 caliber rifle, and the cores have nothing to do with that. [Reply]
