I love Alex. He was actually shit on when he first came into the league by Royals fans, and he wasn't even bad. But he's going to be 36 years old. I do not want him playing baseball for the Royals after this year under any circumstance other than a SUPER DUPER cheap contract of 2M for a one year deal or something.

Even then, I'd like to get our young guys out there and see what we have.

What young guy are the Royals gonna stick out in LF next year, out of curiosity? I mean, the only realistic option you have for next year is if Lopez balls out this year, takes over 2B going forward, you move Whit to the OF full-time and he can start in LF majority of the time. Because if you DON’T do that, you’re going to have a gaping hole next year in LF all year long. Especially when you consider Alex is rebounding offensively and his defense continues to be gold glove caliber.

So again, it’s mostly dependent on Nicky Lopez and his success this year. If he sticks, then you move Whit there next year and you’re good. But if Lopez isn’t ready, you better be open to Alex returning for another year, because if he doesn’t it’s gonna be bad out there. Obviously not paying him the money he’s making now, but a reasonable one year deal for say 7 mil. is fair and doesn’t create a giant hole in the OF and your lineup.

Gordon is blocking nobody and payroll at current time means jack shit to anybody other than David Glass and Prison Douche.

If he's saying play for KC or retire, then he will play on a cheap contract. He has no leverage, there will be no bidding war. He will play on a cheap contract or he won't play at all. Id take him back especially if he can put up at least 75% of the production from this year. He's still a badass defensively.

Gordon has a$4 million sunk cost in the form of his player option.

If they can work out a reasonable deal over 1-2 years, there’s value in bringing back both on-field and off.

Something like extending the contract to buy out the mutual option and make it a 2-year, $20 million deal (which is $8 million/year in new money) would work well on both ends.

Not saying do it no matter what. I’m saying do it if the price is low and reasonable.

Unless you’re in a hurry to see Jorge Bonifacio in LF or something like that, it doesn’t block anything.

And he has been damn good this year. On a 6-win pace. Having him around as the young guys come up takes pressure off them to perform and also places an excellent example adjacent to them.
