Saw this today... enjoyable, gory a bit but the crew is dumb af...and the spoiler posted is spot on...but ending was like oh?! I think original alien fans more so dislike this. I'm a casual fan and enjoyed it...better than Prometheus.
Also an interesting beginning which I thought was cool regarding the captain. Unexpected. [Reply]
Overall it pretty much sucked. Caught this last night and was underwhelmed . Fassbender was aces though. McBride was okay but overall it didn't deliver . I had the same problems with Prometheus (the crew making absolutely stupid choices) . [Reply]
It looked pretty good as Prometheus did, but the crew still did some things that make no ****ing sense and I have questions:
Spoiler!
Where did David get the facehugger embryos?
What the **** is up with the black goo? One minute it turns you into weirdo human creature, the next it implants a protoxenomorph in you, and sometimes it's used like a nuke that kills people and leaves their husk in its wake. I know David said it goes for nonbotanous organic life and takes many forms but.... eh, I feel like the way it's portrayed is a reach.
And if David bioengineered the classical xenomorphs we see in the Alien franchise, how the **** do so many of the eggs get on the derelict spaceship on LV-426? And with a fossilized engineer aboard?
I'll say I didn't like James Franco much in this.. [Reply]
Again, what the **** is up with the crew making stupid ****ing decisions?
They decide to make a detour on this unknown planet of which they have no research. They touch down and off rip leave the ship with no ****ing protective gear? So ****ing stupid. The native Americans were partially wiped out due to microorganisms brought to the new world by Europeans and African and we live on the same ****ing planet. Do you really think your immune system is equipped to handle whatever extraterrestrial pathogens would no doubt be present in this foreign atmosphere?
The captain really followed David into the cellar and investigated the egg sacs. Really?
And what's up with the engineers home world? We're supposed to believe they're some super advanced alien race and they just allow some spacecraft to drop a bio-nuke on their capitol? What the hell were they all doing gathering in that area anyway, waving and shit? They're obviously capable of some ridiculous interstellar travel. I find it hard to believe they'd even bat an eye at a returning spacecraft.
It wasn't all bad. Fassbender was fucking awesome, as usual. That dude is seriously a wizard with words. I don't know of another actor who convincingly pulls off such diverse accents.
They've done a decent job of world building, well at least establishing some lore despite rarely giving a concrete answer. I was intrigued as fuck during Prometheus and still so during Covenant.
It looks great, minus some shitty CGI on the aliens.
... but, yeah. That's basically it. I thought the aliens weren't very interesting as your typical movie monster slasher and the twist was so telegraphed a preschooler could have pinned it midway through. [Reply]
Killing Elizabeth between Prometheus and Covenant might be the single stupidest thing in this movie. I actually liked her. Let's make the Engineers dress and build structures like ancient Rome even though they can create worlds and travel across the fucking galaxy. So fucking stupid.

If you can completely disassociate this movie from the originals you will be fine.
In other words, if Prometheus and Covenant were the first Alien movies you have watched, you will probably like it. But......... [Reply]
Bottom line is, Scott's franchise cut it's teeth as suspenseful monster-stalker movies ("Alien", "Aliens"), and then the franchise got all thoughtful and went to shit. The first sign was the beginning of "Alien 3" when they callously killed off Newt and Hicks. [Reply]

I enjoyed Prometheus, despite it's many faults. But from what I've heard the crew in this one made those idiots look like geniuses by comparison. [Reply]
