Nzoner's Game Room>Let's talk about the 49ers (Super Bowl Edition)
TLO 07:03 PM 01-19-2020
Well Chiefs vs Packers is what I had hoped for, but that's not happening.

Let's talk about Chiefs vs 49ers here.

Being able to throw on the run isn't really speaking about mobility.

Mobility is simply the ability to move around, elusiveness, and just run fast.

The most mobile QB is Lamar. Probably followed by Watson.

The best scrambler (QB that eventually makes a throw) is probably a tie between Wilson and Pat.

It's semantics though. Pat is one of the best scrambling QBs ever.

The lone positive here is that fools like you will waste two weeks trolling only to get your asses handed to you in the big one. Think about it, that’s twice as long as the Titantards. Way to go Caliboy.

He’s not the fastest in a straight line, but his 20 yard shuttle is pretty much identical to Russell Wilson. Also I think he has insane natural instinct with pass rush and this helps him escape pressure much better than 99.9% of the QBs in the league. There is a lot of Fran Tarkenton in Mahomes’ scramble game, but he has much stronger arm to go with it.

I find it funny you 49er fans are referring to Mahomes as a 'dual threat' QB. He's a guy who has so much success throwing the ball that defenses try to double team anyone and everyone, and rather than force it, he's just started to learn to take what the defense gives him and enjoy a nice little jaunt for 15yds here and there. Please, put a spy on Mahomes so you cut down on his rushing lanes.... The Chiefs beg you.

Wilson is his best comparison, but 1/ Mahomes is so much better throwing outside of the pocket than Wilson and has receivers that make that prospect infinitely more dangerous and 2/ Wilson is regularly thinking run while Mahomes has his eyes downfield regularly thinking pass and only reverts to the run if necessary.

No one has prepared you for Patrick Mahomes, and definitely not the level that he's playing the game the last several weeks.

Ah..... We had injuries all over the field in those games. Seattle and Ravens games we were decimated with front 7 injuries, offensive line injuries and even 1st string kicker. We had a backup kicker who kicked it down the tunnel instead of through the uprights for the game winner.

Wilson and Lamar Jackson are more mobile than your QB. That's not to say your QB isn't great. He is great and I openly also say that along with you guys. Just running around he is fast but not as fast as Russell Wilson or certainly Lamar Jackson.

Like I said our team was so decimated by injuries then. It was not full strength defense. Some of those key guys are back now for the playoffs and we have been more dominant. Yes Mahomes is great but I would rather have a closer to full strength roster like now than the patch work roster backups we were playing with when we faced those 2 teams.

I agree with you. I'm not saying anything bad about Mahomes here. His elusiveness in the pocket is just amazing.

But let's be honest: he is not the pure runner of the football that Lamar is. And he doesn't have Watson's sheer athleticism. But he a much better passer on the move than any of them, except maybe Wilson. And he might still surpass Wilson; it's only his second year starting, for Pete's sake.

Can’t believe we aren’t talking about this throw more. 3rd & 6, up by 11, halfway through the 4th quarter...and you throw an absolute dime to put the game on ice and send your team to the Super Bowl. It’s one of the best plays in Chiefs history. https://t.co/RHFwc1CtoL

In terms of avoiding pass rush, the 20 yard shuttle gives a better idea than the 40 yard dash. Wilson and Mahomes have a virtually identical 20 yard shuttle. Patrick is very difficult to sack because of this quickness. He’s not very fast in the 40 yard dash but fast enough to burn people for 5-15 yard gains on 3rd down.

You're talking to someone else, I know, but this last comment had to be push back on just a bit.

From last year to this, Dee Ford (Pro bowler) and Nick Bosa (Pro bowler) were added to the pass rush. Tartt has returned healthy and replaced Exum (out of the league most of the year). Kwan Alexander(Pro bowler) has replaced Foster. Sherman has returned to All Pro form. Malcolm Smith has been replaced by Greenlaw. Armstead was a stiff last year. This year he's a pro bowl alternate. Ward is finally healthy and he too is a pro bowl alternate. Solomon Thomas was nearly useless last year dealing with his sister's suicide, and is rejuvenated this year. Nearly half of the defense has changed, replacing journeyman / hanger on type players with pro bowler caliber players. And several others have elevated their game to pro bowl level. It is a MUCH different defense that KC will face in the Superbowl.

Yeah, we know ALL about Dee Ford, and will run right at him. You'll be lucky if he lines up on the right side of the ball...

Mahomes is elite in all aspects of the game, but I think his lack of speed will expose him against the 49ers line. Ford and Bosa are not fast per se, which is why Wilson, Murray and Jackson had success against them. They were able to run away from 49er d-linemen. But, the 49ers linemen are very quick in short area bursts 5-10 yards. It's going to be interesting.

It doesn’t bother me at all. It’s just football. Plus I made a great friend in Rabs. Hard to think I’m wasting my time.

So you're saying that your secondary is now better. Great. Better than the Patriots secondary from last year? How about better than their secondary this year?

Well, they better be. Because in 9 quarters of play Pat Mahomes put 94 points on the Patriots secondary.

So the Niners secondary should be much better than the Patriots secondary if they want to win.

He has made a fool of Khalil Mack and Von Miller. You underestimate Pat’s scrambling ability. He’s plenty quick enough to make plays against any pass rusher.
