Media Center>Ed Harris takes Top villain role in HBOs "Westworld" reboot

Sweet. Loved this film when I was a kid. It's ripe for a reboot.

Doesn't sound like he's playing the Yul Brenner role though

Ed Harris is coming to series TV: The Abyss and Apollo 13 actor has signed on as the Big Bad in HBO’s Westworld reboot.
The four-time Oscar nominee’s character is called The Man in Black, and is described as “the distillation of pure villainy into one man.” He joins previously cast star — and fellow series television newcomer—Anthony Hopkins, along with Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, and Shannon Woodward.

The Warner Bros.-produced sci-fi pilot produced by J.J Abrams, Jerry Weintraub, and Bryan Burk updates Michael Crichton’s 1973 classic film about a theme park where androids fulfill dark human desires. Harris’ description might sound like he’s playing the Yul Brynner killer-cowboy robot role, but it seems like actor Rodrigo Santoro was tapped for that part—and online production rumors suggest The Man in Black is actually a human character who sadistically abuses the androids.

Harris will soon be seen the feature film Run All Night, starring opposite Liam Neeson and Joel Kinnaman. Harris won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Emmy for his work in HBO’s Game Change.

For that reason, and because i thought the first season of WW was really good and "complete" in many ways in and of itself, I ended season 1 thinking "that was GREAT, but I think I'm done here". I think I will wait and see what you guys think of season 2 before deciding for certain. I'll take the spoiler risk...
Eventually the human race will lose to something. Why not apes or AI?

Sure, but that doesn't mean I have to watch it. My entertainment time is limited and i have a near-infinite variety of choices. :-)

Missed the first episode last night.

I’m debating over not watching it week to week & just binge watch it later.

Its a 75 minute episode and it's a good one. Launches into the new direction with the usual subtle time shifts and story line zig-zags.

I watched it last night at around 1 am. I watched the whole thing, but wasn't coherent enough to understand any of it. Need to watch it again.

Did HBO have a free preview weekend? I dumped HBO after GOT ended, and meant to resubscribe yesterday prior to WW starting, but forgot. But last night's episode still recorded normally. If this is the case, I guess I'd better call DTV before next Sunday.

As far as the episode went, it was good, but a bit confusing. Been so long since the show was last on that I forgot a lot of the plot points. Should probably rewatch the final episode of Season 1 and then rewatch this.

I do find the multiple timeline thing to be annoying, though. I blame Christopher Nolan. :-)

Yeah it's the one show I don't watch while I'm also on my tablet or phone. You have to pay attention or it doesn't make any sense at all.

OR you can not pay attention and just look up when there are females nudez on. Guess I've done both.

If I ever visited Westworld amusement park in real life, I'd get as far as the "welcome wagon" and spend the entire time banging Dolores in the whorehouse above the saloon. Sure, I'd miss 99.99% of what the world had to offer, but god damn...it'd be money well spent.

What was that stuff Bernard shot into his head/neck? Was that whatever watery substance in that one host's brain area?

It seems there is only a certain amount of time before imminent death until they replenish that supply.

I assume it was like their blood. The robots can apparently bleed out just like Johnny 5 in Short Circuit 2.

I have a feeling it will be explained some in coming episodes.

From the way Bernard employed it, it seemed to be some kind of fluid vital to effective operation. The easy thing is to analogize it to blood, but I'm at a loss for a rationale for the creators to introduce that kind of feature. I mean, it doesn't look like blood, and there is something in them that does look like bllod, judging by the 'kills.'

Perhaps its a nanofluid that facilitates communication, perhaps even communication to the neural network of the park.
