Nzoner's Game Room>Cam Newton to the Patriots
Dante84 05:55 PM 06-28-2020

Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has reached agreement on a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the New England Patriots, league sources tell @mortreport and me.

Newton now will step into the mix to try to help replace former Patriots’ QB Tom Brady.

I don't love this move. I still would've preferred Dalton; he would've been a little cheaper, his production's about the same, he's healthier, and he's not a distraction. BUT... Cam does have way more upside, IF he's healthy. With no QBs except Stidham and Hoyer, they probably go 8-8 at best and miss the playoffs; with a healthy Cam, they challenge in the now-competitive AFC East. Good enough to get the #2 seed and a bye and a home game? Probably not. It's going to be Chiefs #1, Ravens #2. #3 and #4 will be the AFC East winner and AFC South winner in some order.

I like to see what pimp outfit he's going to wear after the game.

Looking forward to it.

Honestly they would have been better off signing Winston when they had the chance. Younger and more upside. I think Newton has suffered one too many hits to the head. Not sure he is a game changer anymore. The positive though is he will be better than Stidham meaning the Pats won’t be able to tank for Trevor.

Good signing. One-year deal if it doesn't work out they can just get rid of him.

And they'll get a Comp pick when he signs somewhere else.

I am just glad they aren't throwing the season for Lawrence. Cam is at least good enough to not give the Pats a shot at #1.

Winston made a lot of bad decisions last year, which probably caused a lot of teams to shy away. But that was the only year he had such a horrible INT number. Maybe he just got fed up with the Bucs. I wouldn't have been that upset if they'd given him a try. Honestly, though, you're talking a bunch of guys--Dalton, Cam, Winston, even Kaep--who are just B-level dudes. They're all enough to keep a mediocre team in the hunt but that's about it, IMO.

Chase Daniel trending on Twitter.

Chase Daniel is being paid more than Jameis Winston and Cam Newton COMBINED.

NO QB would give NE a shot at #1. But either Cam, Dalton or Winston would be fine with Cam probably having the highest upside.

Smart move... 1 year flier on a guy in a Brady transition year. No real downside for NE and I think most expected this to happen.

Smart move. Cam can give Bill what Lamar gives the Ravens. We know they like to run the ball and play defense. This can expand their offense and use Cam’s athleticism to improve their offense.

Interested to see what a motivated Cam Newton will do this season on the Patriots. Honestly I'd be surprised if he doesn't beat out Stidham eventually during the season but I still don't foresee the Patriots being a threat until they improve the talent on their roster. I can't see Cam Newton elevating that offense like Brady did with underwhelming weapons.

It's all good as long as Cam keeps them out of the Trevor sweepstakes.
