Bengals three-time Pro-Bowl DE Trey Hendrickson has requested to be traded from Cincinnati, per league source. Hendrickson is due to make $15 million this season, and is looking for more long-term security than Cincinnati has been willing to offer. pic.twitter.com/PDNKTEiKII

Yeah - he's gonna want a new deal. They absolutely stole the guy the first time and so of course he's gonna look to strike while the iron's hot.
What's tough for the Bengals is that he does have the money to hold out and simply wait until week 9 to accrue his FA season. It's less than ideal, but he could do it. And then there's the ol' "hold-in" strategy that nobody's really had the balls to try yet, but Operation Shut Down could be on the table.
And for the Bengals - guy's gonna be 31 next season (and he's technically under contract next year as well). You may not really WANT to be extending him.
The best case scenario for Cincy here is probably something similar to what the Chiefs did with Jones - find a way to get him some incentives in that deal that are reasonably likely to pay out if he plays well again. That'll get him on the field and playing hard. And if it works, gets him paid to the level he feels his performance warrants.
But man - sure sucks y'all won precisely ****-all when you had cheap Burrow, Higgins, Chase and Hendrickson, don't it?
Probably should've been successful and THEN mouthy...
You couldn't realistically ask for a better contract championship window than they had these past few years. You just don't get that many elite players on cheap deals for three years in a row. The early Mahomes years when Tyreek still was cheap would be close, but that didn't last as long.
It's a steep steep climb back to the top now after they had the most level hill of any team since 2021. [Reply]
This guy has been a major pain in the ass for the Chiefs in their matchups with the Bengals. I would love if he ends up on a bad team. You would think they won't trade him to teams like Buffalo, Baltimore, etc.
EDIT: But I hope he doesn't end up with the Raiders, Broncos, or Chargers. [Reply]
Bengals franchise WR Tee Higgins also has requested to be traded being that there have been no contract talks with the team now in over a year. https://t.co/vN984f7TVb

That's what is so rare about it.
3 years is an eternity for those kind of value contracts. At essentially 3 of the most vital positions on the field.
What they didn't have was even replacement value at the 4th of those critical positions - OT.
They simply never even got to average at OT for a QB that badly needs protection to perform.
History won't remember these Bengals at all, but to whatever extent it can be bothered to stoop to notice them, it will look back on them as one of the least successful wide-open windows in modern NFL history.
You judge greatness by its graveyard and Patrick Mahomes has placed a few black and orange tombstones in his. Bills fans can bitch all day about Josh Allen being the right quarterback at the wrong time, but it's the Bengals that absolutely should've won SOMETHING over the last few seasons. [Reply]
BREAKING: Tee Higgins has requested a trade, and, yes the #Bengals star would be an ideal fit for #BillsMafia and #ChiefsKingdom, even if those contenders must pay a significant premium.
Breaking: I just spoke with Trey Hendrickson's agent, Harold Lewis, about Hendrickson's trade request.
Hendrickson is hopeful the Bengals reconsider and give him a long-term deal. If not, he wishes to be traded. Trey is also considered retirement. More to come @Enquirer

Ideal Super Bowl windows in this league are short.
The Bengals' window slammed shut.
The only way to have an extended one is elite QB on a cheap deal (Brady) combined with great drafting and defense (Belichick).
Mahomes is making more than Brady did (especially cap percentage, which is the crucial number) but his playoff performance is a stratosphere above any other QB ever, the drafting is amazing, and the Chiefs have Spags as DC.
