Which makes you wonder if that Buckner contract was a legitimate chess move by Ballard to inflate the market for Jones and make it nearly impossible for a long term deal to get done. No way Buckner is worth that much, but forcing the top team in the conference into tougher salary decisions is probably worth some wasted millions to other teams. Hope Veach pulls off a better move and makes him look like an idiot.

No, a GM isn't going to pay his player 5m per year too much just to mess with another team. He might structure a contract weird to keep another team from matching it but that's about it. jmo.
