Media Center>Star Wars: Rebels

And here's our replacement for Clone Wars. Coming to Disney XD in fall 2014. Bridges the gap between Eps 3 and 4. Looks...very cool. Conceptually.

Bit more detail:

The series will mine material from the 19 years that follow Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and precede the Episode IV: A New Hope. In other words, using the life of the Skywalker twins as a measure, the series will be active in the story years that come after their separation as newborns and before their (unwitting) reunion on the prison level of the Death Star.

No word on whether the show will feature Darth Vader (who would be in the Empire’s power consolidation years and earning his reputation) or even pull in a character like Han Solo, the smuggler and cynic who becomes an unlikely freedom fighter when he opts to stand with his friends against cosmic odds. The title of the show is vaguely phrased in a way that any rebel — even a Boba Fett or Ahsoka Tano might qualify as a title character merely by walking an outsider’s path.

The series has three executive producers: Dave Filoni, the point man on The Clone Wars animated series that launched in 2008; screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg, who has a flair for tonal rewiring and energizing familiar brands with new edge (e.g.: X-Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes); and Greg Weisman, whose credits include well-regarded work on Young Justice and The Spectacular Spider-Man.

While I thought the season was great and exponentially better than Season One, there's something about this series that really bothers me:

Darth Vader

We've been led to believe that Vader was extremely powerful in The Force and that he was absolutely ruthless during that era. Yet nothing we've seen on film or in Rebels backs up those claims. Darth Maul seems to be far more powerful in The Force and far more ruthless. And outside of Anakin/Vader killing the "younglings", we haven't seen the "ruthless" side of Vader, unless you count the choking of Admiral's Ozzel and Peitt, which were no match for him, anyway.

Vader didn't kill Kanan or Ezra or Ahsoka, yet I'm pretty sure that if Maul wanted Kanan dead, he would have killed him, not only blinded him.
There's a theory floating about that Vader doesn't fully embrace the dark side until after the destruction of the Death Star. Once Tarkin and the Moffs are gone, there's not much to keep him in-check.
He never really left the military or stopped fighting a war. He was a soldier for most of his adult life, and had that mentality And once the command structure was obliterated and a few "fellow soldiers" he admired were vaporized, he really let the hate start to flow.
Compare his demeanor between IV and V.

Interesting, thanks!

Okay. What's the deal with Ezra's helmet? It seems totally random when he puts it on. At times I know it's to help him hide his identity, but what other functions does a helmet like that serve? Does the visor help keep from getting vision messed up in a fight with lasers blisters? For so, then why doesn't everyone use them? It's a kind of silly complaint but it always seems weird when he puts his helmet on and is like "okay. Let's go!"

Trooper helmets have all sorts of cool gizmos in them, cadet helmets to probably a lesser extent.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all at #SWCE 2016! And remember, there's always a bit of truth in legends. pic.twitter.com/auc6HDDAx1

Word is that Grand Admiral Thrawn will appear in Season 3 of Rebels. Two episodes will be shown at Star Wars Celebration Europe in July.

Now the trick is how to incorporate him given how the story has progressed to this point, if that rumor is true.

The book in the pic is Heir to the Empire and we all heard Ahsoka's line that "Some legends are true", which refers LucasFilm's decision to make the old EU "Legends".

That said, I'm sure that Dave Filoni and Simon Kinberg will figure out a way to incorporate Thrawn's greatest traits in Rebels. Clearly, he'll have a different end game, as the Post ROTJ is completely different than the old EU but he's an interesting character nonetheless.

This news will get Dag's blood moving. If there is a chance that Thrawn can be thrown into the mix, is there a chance Bane will be up next (and maybe possibly Revan)?

Nice catch on the book.

Maybe this is an avenue for Disney down the road after Ep. IX that they can put to movie - the story of the post RotJ days and the battles with Thrawn? Interesting stuff.

My feeling is that LucasFilm wants to appease the EU fan base, as well as draw a larger audience, by introducing a character like Thrawn.

I'll be surprised if his trajectory is the same.

Not to mention that they can tap already popular and some of the better source material to give their way more aggressive SWU some real legs if they’re going to match the scope of MCU. It's wise, really, MCU pulls from decades of source material and punches it up with some reworking because at the core those storylines have already proven to be strong and received with wide appeal.

If certain elements of Legends were able to get some play in the same manner that the side movies are without stepping on the canon of either, that would be best.

I still don't know what the fuck that thing was that was supposed to be "Bane" in Clone Wars.

Yeah, that made no sense. If they would have called that apparition Revan it would have been more believable...

Maybe there was some copyright thing preventing his image from being used? :-)

LucasFilm owns everything Star Wars so that isn't the issue.

My guess is that they decided not to mess with Revan because it might mess up future plans.

Originally, Timothy Zahn wanted C'Boath to be a clone of Obi Wan but Lucas flat out denied him.

I'd guess this is something similar.

The Thrawn thing was news months ago. Did we not talk about it here?
