That looks like Kelce's pulling across the formation on an option run. It freezes those LBers because they have to worry about the possibility of Smith/Hunt (or Hill on occasion) bouncing it out wide.
It's just a brutal short-yardage play. I don't know how you keep them from picking up 3-5 yards easily if its executed properly. And if things break right it's a 20 yarder.
Just a nasty little wrinkle that Reid has come up with. I don't recall seeing that last year; this year they've run it about 5 times and gotten good yardage and/or a 3rd down conversion each time.
And the instant a team starts to sell out to stop it, Smith keeps that ball or pitches it out wide for 15+.
It's a hell of a lot more effective than those speed bootlegs with a single guy out in the pattern that they ran 2-3 times yesterday, that's for sure. [Reply]
