More trade news: The #Chiefs are deep in talks with the #49ers on a trade for star pass-rusher Dee Ford, sources say. Things have escalated and this could get done by the end of the night. Ford needs to work out a new contract with SF, which is a big piece of this.

There is no fucking way I'd do that "three for Ford +" deal unless they have very explicit plans to spend every cent of his cap hit somehow. Otherwise I'd sooner keep him for a year, get a contract-year performance out of him and let him walk and get a 3rd comp pick. Or franchise and trade him next year. Or franchise him and play him again.
Anything is better than that deal if we have any unused cap space. My only solace would be that I do think we'll spend every dollar possible. [Reply]

It seems Ford doesn't work in our new scheme. For some reason, the Chiefs let that juicy fact leak. Then they had two teams (SF and GB) genuinely interested. Then GB signed two capable pass rushers so no longer had a need for Ford. If the SF overpaid here, they would be absolute suckers because the Chiefs lack leverage. [Reply]
Getting a 3 now instead of either sitting on your hands this year, or next year to get the ass end of a 3rd round comp choice (maybe) seems like the smarter move. You can't expect the moon when teams are looking at a Nick Bosa or a Montez Sweat folks. [Reply]
