Rex has had facial hair for 40 years. He isn't shaving it off. Filoni isn't shaving it off.
Rex would have no reason to be on Tattooine, let alone deep in the Dune Sea, watching either this specific tribe of Sand People or the villagers of Freetown, or the guy(s) who currently had/have/has Boba Fett's armor.
Plus from a storytelling standpoint it just would be really bad. Every bit of connective tissue in the episode points to Boba Fett: the location, the armor, Cobb Vanth, all of it. Having it turn out to be Rex or some other clone would be the worst kind of 'gotcha' swerve.
What I see is (at least) a 3-way conflict developing between Din, Boba and Gideon, who I assume we'll see next week. If Boba doesn't straight up recover his armor, steal the child and take it to Gideon, maybe with the help of Fennec Shand.
None of this precludes Rex appearing later somewhere else. Nothing says Morrison can only play one role...

And I think it would monumentally stupid if that actually IS Boba Fett. My interest in the show would wane considerably.
Boba Fett is dead. The Emperor was dead. Bringing both back to life would be lame, stupid, uncreative and insulting to portion of the audience. I guess that's what Disney's Star Wars has become so I shouldn't be surprised but it would certainly lessen any excitement I have about future Star Wars TV series.
They've already burned the movies to the ground. Might as well burn any semblance of what made the original trilogy so great to the ground as well.

Also, why would Boba Fett stay on Tatooine for 5 years after the fall of the Empire? What kind of lame backstory would be created for him to stay on the same planet as Obi Wan, Luke & Anakin and the planet where Darth Maul died? Or are they going to bring him back to life, again, too? What makes that Outer Rim desert planet special? Are there only like 6 habitable planets in the Star Wars galaxy?
Again, that's just lazy and I've had enough lazy Star Wars to last me a lifetime. Blech.

When I first watched the movie I thought he died and I didn't' dwell on it. Since then I've met people who are huge Boba Fett fans for some reason and they all hold out hope that he didn't because they thought it was left up in the air. And these are die hard Star Wars fanatics. So I'm ambivalent about the death because I never thought the character was all that interesting. I'm way more into the Mandalorian and if the Boba Fett character can be used to skillfully tell an interesting story with strong characters then I'm all right with it.

Agreed. If that character is who it appears to be, there's a great opportunity to make him far more interesting than the movies ever did. Could be entirely worthwhile. [Reply]

I'm mostly in agreement with you. If they hadn't already brought the Emperor back it probably wouldn't bother me though, so I'll likely be OK with it if they can provide a compelling enough backstory. As you already asked, why is he still on Tattooine. If it ends up being something like he escaped the Sarlacc (if Mando can escape a Krayt, a Sarlacc should be no problem. lol) but is a broken bounty hunter either physically/mentally/spriritually or whatever. Maybe he lost his helmet in the escape and is rescued and nursed back to health. At that point, he's no longer allowed to put the armor back on. He's no longer Mandalorian, so who is he?
I think I would be OK with that. Bobba Fett as we knew him his dead. This would essentially be a new character with an almost blank slate (who also happens to be a bad ass).

And it's nowhere in the same zip code as the ridiculous return of Palpatine (although that happened in EU, too). Many thought Boba Fett's death in RotJ was ****ing stupid, because he's reputed to be the most dangerous killer in the galaxy, and he gets taken out in a completely juvenile scene by a blind Han Solo with a stick. Not the way a notorious Bounty Hunter should go out. One of the things I have always personally felt kept RotJ from being quite on the same level as the first two in the OT, along with having Ewoks defeat the Empire, and not Wookies as originally planned. Because they wanted to sell toys.
Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano may have been accidentally confirmed by the instagram for the Indian version of Disney+, similar to how Timothy Olyphant's casting as Cobb Vance was leaked by the German.

Boba Fett was never a real Mandalorian, nor was Jango Fett. Since they're using the same actor as Jango and the clones, it's either Boba or Rex (or another clone that hasn't been introduced just yet).
I get why some people love it but I'm just really tired of seeing people die onscreen, only to be revived years later.
Why bother watching if nothing is really at stake?
