1. The Chiefs are defeated in the Super Bowl by the New Orleans Saints in a shootout. HC Andy Reid and GM Brett Veach are retained, as is DC Bob Sutton.

2. The Chiefs extend WR Tyreek Hill for 4 years, $80m.

3. The Chiefs re-sign: WR De'Anthony Thomas to 2 years, $6m; C Jordan Devey to 3 year, $12m; OLB Dee Ford to 5 year, $80m.

4. The Chiefs re-sign to minimal deals: RB Damien Williams, FB Anthony Sherman, TE Demetrius Harris, DE Jarvis Jenkins

5. The Chiefs tender: WR Marcus Kemp, C Austin Reiter, ILB Terrance Smith, S Jordan Lucas, K Harrison Butker

6. The Chiefs let walk: RB Spencer Ware, WR Chris Conley, OG Jeff Allen, C Mitch Morse, DE Allen Bailey, CB Steven Nelson, CB Orlando Scandrick, S Ron Parker

7. The Chiefs sign OT Jake Fisher (Bengals) to 1 year, $4m; DE Henry Anderson (Colts) for 2 years, $12m, CB Darqueze Dennard (Bengals) for 2 years, $10m.

8. The Chiefs are selecting 31st. They are not in the hunt for any compensatory picks.

9. They are in the hunt for as many as 4 compensatory picks in 2020 (Ware, Conley, Morse, Bailey, Nelson).

The Selections:

The Chiefs trade their Marcus Peters 2nd rounder and their 2020 3rd to move up to the 20th overall pick.
1. CB Julian Love, Notre Dame

The Chiefs are in a strange space this coming offseason -- they're going really only have 1 playable CB on the roster in Fuller. Ward and Tremon Smith are not players, it doesn't seem. So the Chiefs need to completely re-stock. They made a small splash in the offseason by signing Darqueze Dennard, who is a classic reclamation project that Veach loves. They sign him to a short deal so if Fuller's deal is massive or cumbersome they can get out of Dennard as quickly as possible.

But they also make wholesale investments at corner in the draft. The Chiefs see a potential Top 25 CB in the NFL in Love and trade a couple picks to land him.

2. WR Stanley Morgan, Nebraska

The Chiefs let Chris Conley go, and offense is going to be how this team wins Super Bowls. With Conley gone, the Chiefs need an option to step up in the near term for when Sammy Watkins gets inevitably injured, and in the long term when the team inevitably cuts Watkins in a couple years.

3. CB Lavert Hill, Michigan

The Chiefs need more options. Hill is smaller and shiftier to contrast to Love's size and length.

5. DE Rashard Lawrence, LSU

Flying under the radar this offseason is the DE position, which will only have Chris Jones under contract. Jones will get an extension this year or next, but the Chiefs need to completely re-stock. I think Henry Anderson is another cheap, easy get for a couple years, and the Chiefs bring back Jarvis Jenkins. Lawrence is an option as well.

6. CB Bryce Hall, Virginia
7. DE Josiah Coatney, Ole Miss

Man that's awfully high for a slot corner.

I dispute whether he's only a slot corner.

Second, slot corner is turning out to be the most important corner in the NFL.

He looks pretty small to me. Not sure I buy the measurables Notre Dame provides.

He could possibly be available around the Chiefs second draft choice, so I have no idea why you feel they need to trade up in the first round for him.

Stanley Morgan in the second round is just...idk

Pass. Ignoring tight end and OL is inexcusable IMO. Also, an investment needs to be made at safety.
