In the meantime, this gem from Andy Reid's press conference today:

Andy Reid was asked if he did anything fun or exotic this offseason: “I attacked a couple Chile rellenos.”

The biggest issue here is the Chiefs seem very intent on making sure guys who actually contribute on offense aren't doing a bunch of returning.

Tremon Smith isn't bringing anything in a trade.

Best bet would be guys that were early draft picks the past few years bringing something back. Not likely.

I think i'd probably see how things go this year. If a guy like Saunders shows that he can be say 80% of Jones, i'd probably pull the chute and see what I could get for Jones.
Yeah, I can justify either decision.

I think team defense is the name of the game these days. It's just too easy to neutralize a single player. If you can spread $20 million around and get yourself 2-3 high quality players with it, you might be better served than getting 1 great one.

Let's say Okafor is the definition of a solid contributor, would we be better served with Jones on the DL and chaff at ILB and CB or getting 2 or 3 more 'okafor' kind of players?

I truly don't know. The counter is that you NEED a couple guys like Jones, Clark and Mathieu in order to elevate the production of the surrounding veteran role players.

Like I said, I think both arguments have their plusses and minuses, but I think the ultimately tiebreaker could be the draft capital you'd get in return for Jones.

If you want to trade guys for any kind of value, Jordan Lucas might bring you a 7th round pick.

My issue with the " Okafor type" guys is that even now those guys aren't really cheap. Plus they're not exactly the easiest to find as it seems they tend to not age well etc.

I'd probably sign him and hope I could just draft those types of guys and have them cheap, but the Chiefs haven't exactly been stellar at that lately.

Frank Clark has a sore wrist so the Chiefa removed him from practice.

Basically this team is going to have to hit on some draft picks consistently and then hope that the appeal of Mahomes gets some vets to come in cheaper to "win".

Basically have your 1-2 cornerstone players on defense and hope that you can sprinkle in draft picks and some veterans looking to win.

Offense is going to get more money because well yea.

Not as a CB, but as a returner. He'd get traded for a player that would be getting cut anyway, but it's a way to get around the waiver process similar to the Ehinger/Ward deal.

Also should probably expect this to be the CB situation, there isn't going to be anyone who isn't what we have already out there.

Maybe a shit in and shit out kinda thing.

I'm guessing they'll keep him as a gadget type player, but I don't really see why.

I just can’t believe that not only is Pat our QB, but that people with his gifts exist.

He really is like a damn alien or something. He just throws the ball with such ease. Just flicking the ball around 40 yards while he’s shooting the shit is a spectacle.

It really is special

There will be another Ward. There's always a guy like Ward; lots of guys are just extended looks/trust away from being serviceable.

We never know who they are (who was on Ward before we acquired him?), but they're out there.

And no, they're not going to be any safer bets than someone like Wade, but it may turn out that they're just better than the last CB on the roster. So turn over rocks and try to find 'em. Maybe you get another solid player for your efforts.

It's a better idea than trying to make Tremon Smith a RB, IMO.

Maybe, although I think Mark Fields may be that guy this year and he's already here.

I'd be more than willing to replace Wade but the Smith RB thing is nothing more than the Chiefs basically wanting that guy to be on the team and usually those guys make it.
