This seems plausible.

A guy had the credentials to sneak into pit row and not only that, managed to get into a team's garage that had an actual CAR in it - because NASCAR teams are notoriously lax with their security and don't mind people aimlessly wandering into their garage and having access to their million dollar vehicle.

And then he just happened to notice "hey - this exact stall just happened to have a pull down loop a year ago that looked a lot like a noose!" So in an attempt to send a racist message, he didn't actually bring his own noose and set it on the steering wheel or anything. No - he took the time to stand at the entrance of the garage, untie the existing knot and tie it in a knot that looked like the one that was there....but wasn't. In fact it had two more turns in it. MESSAGE FUCKING SENT, BUBBA!!

Oh, and none of this was caught on surveillance cameras because again - security isn't a thing in NASCAR garages where a chassis being off by .001 of an inch can/will ruin seasons, reputations and/or careers.

Totally plausible explanation. Nothing more to see here - there's CLEARLY not anyone desperately looking to cry racism at any corner.

A noose closes.

Everyone keeps walking past that point. Y'all want to focus on turns or where the knot comes out (when in reality, lots of knots have all those same earmarks but don't close).

If a noose were tied at the end of that line, the very first time someone grabbed it, it would've closed on them. Don't even grab the loop - just grab the knot and it will still immediately come undone once it was subject to any pressure. And y'know, garage doors aren't light, fellas. Especially not secure doors designed to protect a bunch of damn race cars.

It clearly was not a damn noose unless our argument is now that not only did someone sneak into a garage against all odds and take the time to make a virtually identical knot to the one that was there before, but also - nobody after that period of time actually used the pull cord on the garage door because the moment they did, that thing comes undone. Oh wait - the picture was with the door open. So SOMEBODY did. He must've just been really damn tall and rather than use the loop to pull the door the rest of the way back when it got to its apex, he just reached real high and pushed from the base.

Someone tell me more about how nobody's desperately trying to fabricate a racist angle to use here.

Use. Your. Heads. You don't have to be an expert on knots or nooses or garage doors. You have to be a halfway intelligent human being with the life skills of a 12 year old and the critical thinking ability of a Chia Pet. Jesus Christ.

nascar has some young talent to keep it going. In 4 years you will know the name of the rookie drivers that I don't know off the top of my head..

You dont use the rope to open a garage door and even if you do you dont get anywhere near the end of it where the loop is. So the door being open is irrelevant if a track or team staffer had gone in and changed it.

Why would nascar continue to say that it is different than all the other pulls and release a picture of a knot that looks different than the old footage and continue to call it a noose if it isnt?

Why are you so sure that they haven't pulled on it to see of it tightens? They've never wavered that it was a noose. You are saying that you are so sure because of how it operates but yet you haven't touched it.

Bull fucking shit. I could find more loops tied on their garage stalls than that just by watching youtube clips for 15 minutes.

Nascar realized they stepped in their own shit. It's the only way they can attempt to save face. See, it was real!!! Now please quit making us look like complete idiots with your cute picture thingies all over the internet. We're old, and don't even know how to meme, let alone counter act that hashtag thing you kids use. ...and you're making our one black friend mad. We damn sure don't know how to handle that! Please stop!

They know they've been losing fans left and right for a decade and can't afford to keep bleeding out. Die hard fans are now laughing at them publicly. Their get woke experiment was bound to go exactly as it is.

The World of Outlaws is loving this shit.

What in the actual fuck are you talking about? Are you in such a damn bubble that you believe every garage door has an opener on it? And yes, if it's a door that you use with any frequency at all, you put a damn rope on it so you don't have to bend down and grab it AND so you can pull it back to stop when it gets up over your head.

You're just throwing off raw ignorance left, right and center here. Like I said - this discussion at least requires the life skills of a 12 year old and if you don't have the sense to know that yes, a SHITLOAD of garage doors are opened and closed by a damn rope, you really should just tap out of this discussion altogether.

They've never wavered on it being a noose because they ALL have their asses in the same sling right now. NASCAR ran with this stupid half-cocked bullshit at the same time Wallace did. They're all trying to cover their tails for looking like a bunch of race-baiting charlatans.

I'm saying they haven't pulled on it because the 'casual' shots that are supposed to be dispositive show a full loop. I'm saying that if the rope was used even a single time, that knot would've just come shut - at best it would be some little gnarled end where it popped a dudes fingers and it could've easily come undone altogether. It wouldn't be that nice perfect little loop that it shows in the pictures.

Unless, of course, it's a locked loop knot. Because of COURSE it is a locked loop knot. One that provides a nice handle to pull a door open/shut and is then hung on said loop when you shut the door so you don't have to lean down to pick it up.

Someone's never worked outdoors a day in his life, has he? I'm a soft as soft !@#$ing gets these days but I spent my formative years working on a ranch/farm and yes, we have loop knots out there. They're damn handy for getting a garage door to it's end point - it gets up over your head, you grab the loop and you drag backwards to make sure it drags all the way to stop (because if it doesn't, a tractor smokes it when you're parking it or it falls on someone's head if the weight shifts.)

Or maybe it's that string of really unlikely things suggested by the dude that thinks ropes aren't used to open garages.

Man - know when you're beaten. This is just kicking a retarded kid at this point.

I’m definitely in the boat that NASCAR fabricated this. My questions are almost rhetorical at this point.

I’m just looking for confirmation that it is not a noose. I’m no expert on knots, so that’s why I ask.

The timing and inconsistencies here definitely point toward some combination of NASCAR and Wallace pushed this for attention.

I’ve never worked really worked on cars, but isn’t that rope awful clean? After at least a year, shouldn’t it be covered in grease and oil?

Maybe. But those garages are all awfully clean from the looks of it. You talk about the clean rope but man - look at the wall. My kitchen isn't that spotless.

I obviously haven't worked on a Nascar, but I've worked on my '67 plenty and anytime I'm doing work on it, the Gojo stays really close by. As soon as I'm out of the bay or out from under it, I grab the gojo and a towel just to be safe. Anything I pull out/off it gets put in a bin (either hanging on the fender or in the crawler - if for no other reason than I don't want to lose track of it)

I'm just not inclined to get a bunch of shit on the car.

Granted, I don't put it on the track and go banging into stuff with it, but the sponsors at least want those things looking sparkly in the paddock, don't they?

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if those mechanics are a hell of a lot more precise about stuff when they're doing pre/post race in those garages than I am when I'm changing the oil in the pickup.
