Regarding antibody testing:

Let's say that COVID is present in 5% of the population. You have a test that is 100% sensitive and 95% specific. If I have a positive test, what is the likelihood that I'm actually positive?

50%.

If the test is 99.5% specific, the likelihood is 91%.

That's the reason why a lot of these tests have issues.

I've said from the beginning of this thread that there are going to be some serious issues with the data coming in from these trials because they are being conducted so quickly--it's the nature of the beast. It doesn't mean the people conducting the trials are unethical, but I strongly believe it bears repeating when people are hanging all over every announcement.

The reason why the progress of science is often slow is because the process of evidence evaluation takes a long time, and that pressure has led to people seeking out information that has not yet been properly vetted and claiming that it has far more predictive value than it really does--which is actively harmful.

While true, we just don't have time right now. Some decisions have to be made in a sense being the best of bad decisions. I worry we're continuing to make the wrong ones

That's a helluva difference. Looking at those numbers the average person would think the 100/95 test would be very accurate.

Sweden is probably playing it as they're trying to get as close to the line on it as they can, which is what we're gonna end up doing once we relax things.
