Assumptions:
1. The Chiefs finish 12-4, win the AFC West, and secure the 1st overall seed. They host the Raiders and manage to fend them off for a trip to the AFCCG, where they lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 24-13. HC Andy Reid and GM Brett Veach stay on.
2. The Chiefs trade QB Alex Smith to the
New England Patriots for their entire 2018 draft Jacksonville Jaguars for a 2nd round pick.
3. OLB Tamba Hali retires.
4. The Chiefs extend CB Terrance Mitchell 3 years, $18m ($7m guaranteed).
5. The Chiefs sign NT Bennie Logan 3 years, $27m ($15m guaranteed).
6. The Chiefs tender NT Rakeem Nunez-Roches, ILB Ramik Wilson.
7. The Chiefs sign QB Tyler Bray, RB Akeem Hunt, FB Anthony Sherman, DE Jarvis Jenkins, ILB Kevin Pierre-Louis to minimal deals.
8. The Chiefs cut TE Ross Travis, OT Cam Erving.
9. The Chiefs let walk WR Albert Wilson, WR De'Anthony Thomas, OL Zach Fulton, OL Jordan Devey, NT Roy Miller, ILB Terrance Smith, CB Phillip Gaines, CB Kenneth Acker, P Dustin Colquitt.
10. The Chiefs sign QB Chad Henne (Jaguars) for 1 year, $3m, WR Tyrell Williams (Chargers) for 1 year, $2m, TE Virgil Green (Broncos) for 1 year, $2m, DE Kyle Williams (Bills) for 2 years, $10m ($2m guaranteed), OLB Marcus Smith (Seahawks) 2 years, $2m.
9. The Chiefs are picking 29th, and have one compensatory pick (a 6th) for QB Nick Foles. They have three conditionals: a 6th for OT Isaiah Battle, a 7th for DE David King, and a 7th for CB Marcus Cooper.
The draft:
2 (Smith). OT/G Jamarco Jones, Ohio State
This team has to get tougher in the trenches. And it's become apparent this week that losing Eric Fisher is akin to sacrificing our QBs. Jones will be our swing tackle for 2018, then will compete inside (or outside) as the opportunity emerges.
2. WR Courtland Sutton, SMU
Every year, someone drops. Sutton has Top 20 skills, but will likely drop a bit in the 2018 draft as concerns about his lack of speed surface. Sutton is not a burner, but in the Chiefs offense, they don't need a burner. With Mahomes as the QB, the Chiefs need someone with a huge catching radius to go get the ball. At 6'4", Sutton is that guy.
3. OLB Chad Thomas, Miami
With Dee Ford possibly in the last year of his tenure in KC, the Chiefs need to stock the edges with mean passrushers who can pound. I brought in Marcus Smith from Seattle, but I'm bringing in Thomas as well. Thomas has some size and bend to him, and with Smith, Zombo, and K-Pass, the Chiefs are finally as stocked in the trenches as they can possibly be.
4. CB Quenton Meeks, Stanford
Long corner with good athleticism.
5. C Nick Linder, Miami
The Chiefs trade one of their 6ths and both of their 7ths to move into the 5th round.
6. P JK Scott, Alabama

Call me very meh on this...
I'm not for drafting a swing tackle in round 2 and if I'd be drafting a guard, I can think of two better one's at OSU right now (one was moved to center).
Courtland Sutton is a pipe dream unless you're packaging two 2nds to get up into the first and even that might not be enough. If he runs well, he could be the first receiver taken. No way in hell he drops to round 2, especially late round 2 (although I see your note about taking him at the first 2nd rounder) unless he runs slow as shit. The kid is an outstanding talent.
Thomas, I'm not impressed with him. Kinda slow off the ball, doesn't use his hands well, and doesn't have great strength on the edge. Very pedestrian numbers rushing the QB so far in his career.
Meeks, if he declares, is probably a 2nd rounder. He'd have to run a 4.6 and be a FS consideration for him to possibly drop that far.

ok, ok, so everyone else is hating...I didn't think you took too bad a crack at it, and I love these types of threads!
A few Positive things I noticed were....I believe your correct in that the best trade partner for Alex is Jax, I'd like to believe we could get more for him but a 2nd feels accurate. I liked the idea of signing a guy like Henne, really like Williams from Chargers and the idea of bringing in an OLB. Mitchell, Logan and Sherman signings are all things I'd like to see as well.
Besides the draft, which it's way too early for me to know anything about, I would like to see us keep Erving and DAT, I think our TE are already 3 deep, I'd like to see DJ play another year or so but that might be a 50:50 coin flip, and I think Gaines might be worth keeping if we don't add some depth to the secondary.
