There was never any connection between Stanton and the Cubs. The only time the Cubs have been named as a destination is when Stanton apparently named them along with the other 3 teams in the LCS.
Apparently the Dodgers are still sniffing around too but the Yankees discussions have reached a "more advanced stage" according to Morosi.
Sounds like he'll be wearing pin stripes unless the Dodgers get serious beyond waiting on a desperate Marlins team with no other options.
Ex-Cub Starlin Castro has come up in discussions in a trade. If the Yankees get him they are going to have some disgusting power in the middle of that lineup. [Reply]
The issue isn't Mozeliak. I think this firmly settles that. The Cardinals offered $300 million plus good prospects for Stanton. St. Louis is not a draw, and I'm sure bumblefuck Matheny doesn't help make it a better looking destination. We've officially reached the point in both basketball and baseball where you can't get elite free agents unless you are a coastal city or a top three media market. The Cardinals really fucked themselves by cheaping out on one of the three best pitchers in baseball when he grew up in motherfucking St. Charles.
I'm sure Stanton will end up in New York for about 30 cents on the dollar of what the Cardinals offered. [Reply]

Rosenthal reporting on it now too. I wonder what exactly the Yankees are giving up. They were reportedly wanting the Marlins to take on some of their bad contracts but the Marlins said no. [Reply]
Wonder if Headley is going too. Andujar is ready for his shot in MLB at 3B with Gleyber Torres suppose to be ready for ST to replace Castro.
Kind of feel bad for Castro. Dude was the only thing worth watching in Chicago for a while there and finally gets on a winning team in NY as the Cubs win a WS and now he's going to the Marlins in the middle of a fire sale. [Reply]

It's not their payroll. There's only so many positions on the field and there's too many RFers under one roof. I imagine they'll look at Machado over Harper.
The Harper and Bryant bromance is too strong to break up. Kidding not kidding. [Reply]
