Nzoner's Game Room>Do You Shop at Thrift Stores?
gblowfish 10:07 AM 04-18-2021
We have several here in Independence. A couple have a bunch of old antique stuff that looks like all the crap in your great grandmama's house. I've found some cool old LP records, old blues and lounge stuff like Dean Martin and Louis Prima. The things I look for most are kitchen stuff like pots and pans, glassware (especially bar glasses like beer pint glasses, wine glasses and martini glasses) and gadgets like a garlic press. Electronics I like old radios. I just bought a Craig AM/FM/Ipod tabletop set for $5. It works, but it has a broken antenna, Replacing the antenna and buying some contact cleaner to clean up the switches inside will cost more than the entire radio! I got a red copper non stick skillet for $6. They're still sold on Amazon, and brand new it's $25. How bout you? Got a good deal on anything recently?

No, but I'm not above it...there just aren't any that are close to me. It's always an interesting stroll through a thrift store, garage sale, or estate sale.

My wife bought a Japanese ginger jar for $4.00 at Goodwill and we sold it for $79.00 on Ebay.

That is like a Dogecoin-type return.

Thrift stores? Or rummage stores? Or 'antique and collectible' stores? Or unclaimed freight stores?

Oh yea! I usually walk out empty handed but you never know what you'll find in one. Bought a Jerry Rice rookie card about 10 years ago for 10 cents. Wish I could find the damn thing.

Every once in a while. I hate shopping for certain things where the options are either like particle board for $300 or something nice for $2000, with nothing in between, and you death scroll through 4000 terrible designs to find the few you like.

I bought a patio set from Goodwill... didn't want to spend hundreds on a set and the one I found was in good shape.

I actually went to Wild Woody's with my parents a lot. It was certainly a unique place.

I don't go to "antique" stores because all that stuff is way too expensive. Rummage and Thrift store is basically the same thing. We have an unclaimed freight store called Cargo Largo. I've bought a lot of stuff there over the years, but the deals there aren't nearly as good as they were 10 years ago.

No, not generally. I'm paranoid about bedbugs. Those fuckers can hide in almost anything.

Actually meant to hit the Goodwill for some summer t-shirts this weekend, they always have a huge variety of good looking stuff... and once in a while you can find some perfectly worn in jeans for just a few bucks

And yep, I dig "junktique" type places as well

"One mans trash", as they say...
