Vlad just swings at EVERYTHING.
Don't give him anything to hit - he's gonna swing anyway and probably put the ball on the ground.
For one year he was selective and waited for a pitch to drive. So he could elevate it even without massive changes to his swing.
Every year before and since he's just been way too aggressive up there. Maybe if he had some real thunder behind him in the lineup pitchers would come at him again but with Bichette doing dick and the rest of the lineup atrophying around him, there's just no reason to throw him a strike.

If they properly limit his catching duties, splitting time at first base and DH, I bet he could continue this pace.

He was pretty patient coming up as a minor leaguer but he's now become a hacker with no idea what he's doing at the plate. Occasionally will hit a ball 115 MPH on a line but most of them are grounders.

I’ve been saying this for years. Get a manager in here who didn’t abuse Perez by having him lead MLB in games caught by a decent margin, and his offense would hold up better. [Reply]
