Nzoner's Game Room>Let's talk about the Ravens.

I’m ready for an exiting game. This season has been a roller coaster. When we had Smiff you just expected to lose to bad teams. This year you just expect to win those games. Like the Browns and Cardinals. I just didn’t get real excited about watching those games. These next 3 games are going to be huge. This weekend will be a huge test for the offense. If we get our rhythm back, I’m not too worried about it. I’d be more comfortable though if Flacco was starting. Can we use DoD to spy Jackson the whole game? Isn’t that what we kinda done in the Rams game. Not spy but used him for his speed.

This seems like the exact type of team that can create major problems for us. Stout enough defensively to slow us down, and mobile and quick enough offensively to neutralize our pass rush (the only strength of our D).

The Ravens would probably be better off putting one of their cornerbacks on Kelce because any of their safeties or linebackers would constitute a mismatch either in terms of size or speed.
From a Raven's writer at the Athletic.

Sounds like Jimmy Smith would be the corner that they put on him, if they go that route.

Even then though you’re sacrificing coverage on Hill and Watkins for Kelce. It’s a lose/lose proposition.

Jimmy Smith was a first round draft pick in 2011, but he gets burned more than any other corner. When he was suspended the first 4 games, last year's first round draft pick Marlon Humphrey from Alabama played, and he is much more aggressive and a harder hitter. Jimmy is one those guys who just throws a shoulder, he would be terrible against a tightend. Actually the two safties Eric Weddle and Tony Jefferson are good cover guys, although Eric is a little slow with his age, he has the instincts like Ed Reed. I think Jefferson will cover Kelce and his backup Anthony Levine is a really good player that can start on a lot of teams, and will get a lot of playing time.

The only defense that can stop Patrick Mahomes is the United States Marine Corps and I think that Patrick would still score 30 on them! The NFL doesn't have a defense that can stop a man like Patrick Mahomes because all defenses have limitations and weaknesses. A quarterback like Patrick Mahomes comes along once in a generation and we have him on our team, what a great time to be a Chiefs fan!

But that might change. He may see the field.
Actually until Joe was injured this season started as his best in 11 years even though his record was 4 - 5 after nine games. He had 342 attempts, second most in the NFL, 209 completions which was 4th most, yards were 2259 which was eight, with 12 TD's and 6 interceptions. He was averaging 282 yards a game, his highest ever after 11 seasons, that was up from 196 yards in 2017 per game average. He actually really starting to click with receivers John Brown, Michael Crabtree and Willie Snead who were all playing in their first year with the Ravens.

Anyway, Joe probably won't see the field again even if his hip recovers. Last week against the Falcons Lamar had to come out for concussion protocol and RGIII lead the team on one drive resulting in a FG until Lamar came back in. His style is much more like Lamar's, so it makes more sense to keep RGIII as the backup. If I were a betting person, I would think maybe trading Joe to the the Jaguars at the end of the season might be a good move for both teams.

Originally I projected the score KC 37 Ravens 17, but after a change at running back and the Ravens defense holding Matt Ryan to 131 yards and a QBR of 45.8 and 1 TD in a game played in Atlanta last week. I'm still giving the victory to the Chiefs but probably more like Chiefs 24 Ravens 14.

Was is really odd, in 2000 the Ravens started the season with Tony Banks at QB and after nine game and a record of 5 - 4, he was benched for Trent Dilfer. He came in and won the remaining 7 games and 4 playoff games including Super Bowl 35.

Yes, Ravens are going to try to run run run, and play ball control and slow down Mahomes. We can't let them go 9 for 12 on 3rd down like the Faiders last week. If they do that and don't turn the ball over, they win. We need to get stops. WAKE THE HELL UP Grandpa Bob!!!

Exactly. I read a stat that the Ravens TOP is up 20% more than their opponents since Jackson has taken over at QB. Their goal will be to keep Mahomes and KC's offense off the field for as long as they can.

if we blitz and/or plan man too predictably, Jackson is going to extend drive after drive after drive with his legs.

I say choke them out on 1st dowm, don't allow 8 yards a clip on 1st down; get them into 3rd & Medium + and get pressure up the middle; or drop 8 into zone and force jackson to throw into small windows. and if he takes off running, route him to the outside the pocket, where hopefully our defenders who are in zone will see him running and actually make a tackle.

Sutton is going to drop 8 and rush 3 and this place isn't going to know how to handle it.

Does it matter what we need to do? Bob has done the "right" thing before when matchups dictate and nobody cares, they still bitch and moan about it.
