There is next to zero chance he has the numbers mentioned.

What they do with Gordo after this year probably depends on the development of Nicky Lopez a bit. If he becomes a solid major leaguer and helps lengthen that lineup, you’ve got your second basemen for the next 5-6 years or possibly more. They can buy out Gordon and move Whit to LF full time starting next year and you don’t lose much.

If Lopez is unsuccessful this year and shows he’s not ready for MLB, then Whit probably moves back to 2B semi-full time and then you’ve got a gaping hole in LF if Alex is gone next year. Obviously, you can’t pick up his option with the price tag it’s at, but maybe you could negotiate a fair 1 or 2 year deal so the Royals aren’t burning money and Gordo gets to retire a Royal.

But, in my view, the whole scenario is dependent on the development of Lopez. So I guess we’ll see . . . . .

The Royals have been shit and the attendance is shit. Meanwhile next door Mahomes and the Chiefs are taking the league and city over. In a similar situation (after the Chiefs hired Reid)the Royals traded Will Myers for Shields/Davis to at least be a contender. I expect Gordo to be re-signed and a strong off season push to bring in some pitching. Not saying that's exactly what I would do but I think that is what happens.

That wasn’t a sac fly. It’s only a sac fly if the runner scores, not if he just moves up a base.

Old friend alert:

The reason for Eureka native Ben Zobrist’s absence from the Chicago Cubs has become apparent.

His wife, Julianna Zobrist, has filed for divorce.

The paperwork was filed Monday in Cook County Circuit Court, according to online documents. On Wednesday morning, Cubs Insider was among outlets reporting the filing.

Other sources reported Julianna Zobrist scrubbed her social-media accounts of most references to her husband.

The Zobrists were married in 2005. They have three children.

Julianna Zobrist, 34, is a Christian pop musician.

Ben Zobrist left the Cubs last week for personal reasons. He also reported late to spring training this season and cited the same reason.

The Cubs did not state the reason for Zobrist’s departure, nor when he might return. His 38th birthday is May 26.

That’s really unfortunate.

For Zobrist’s sake, I hope they work it out and it isn’t related to infidelity on his part.

Being in a working marriage or relationship as a baseball player is damn hard. With all the travel, it’s hard for both partners and players. Lot of time away from each other. Lot of loneliness.

Re: Gordon

If they can get a significant piece for him at the trade deadline - a legitimate top 100 prospect - I’m all for putting him on the market.

But he also has full trade veto protection (as a 10-5 guy). He has to want to go and I’m not sure he will.

And you have to find a contender that needs a LF.

The Indians make sense, but considering their injury issues and the way they approached the season, it’s hard to see that happening.

The Astros, Rays, Red Sox, Yankees and Twins are out. They don’t have a spot for him or have internal reinforcement options.

He might be a fit for the Mariners.

Looking at the NL, the Central teams are all filled in the OF. The Cubs are the only ones close to needing OF help and would have to shuffle pieces around to make it work.

Just not sure who out there is going to be motivated to pay a prospect price worthy of moving him. Maybe the Red Sox is someone gets hurt (though their farm stinks and they could probably move Chavis and his roids to LF).

Let's not assume that it was Ben hittin the side piece

Maybe ole Julez was letting the pastor release his demons and got caught.

Money is great. It doesn’t necessarily deal with the loneliness from being on the road 90+ days a year during the season or being at spring training for 45 days.

The travel and separation are hard on relationships regardless of money.

I don’t presume to know what’s going on in their marriage but don’t a lot of Americans travel? Truckers, sales people (my brother is gone 2-3 weeks/mo with 3 kids at home)....military personnel do year long tours of duty.

He has the funds to fly her on a private jet anytime he wants. 5 months a year of no travel also. I’m not seeing it.

Pretty much every profession you listed have extremely high divorce/cheating rates just so you know.
