Nzoner's Game Room>Off Season Lets Talk Guns, Part 2
HonestChieffan 11:58 AM 01-23-2011
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Oh yeah, those are awful. They look cool as fuck, though. The only reason I didn't buy one back in my n00b days is that I mentioned it to a friend who already owned one, and he talked me out of it.

Rule No. 1 - you don't buy guns or accessories just because they look cool. Again, many examples of my inexperienced dumbassery abound in the old gun thread. :-)

Yeah, I had friends trying to talk me into a glock instead. I wasnt hearing it. It does look cool, and honestly it feels great in my hand. I shot it last weekend and put them all in the 7 circle on a L target from 20 yards.

The two crappiest guns I ever owned were an old S&W 39-2 (bought it because it was pretty and chrome plated) and a Stoeger Cougar (Turkish Berreta knockoff). Both were inaccurate pieces of crap.

The lowest quality gun I own now is my little Ruger LC9s. The only time I carry it is when I'm going somewhere that I know I'll have to leave it in the car. I'm not leaving my $1,000 CZ in the fucking car anywhere.

I hate the 39-2. I have had the misfortune of messing with a few of them. Junk. I own a lot of low budget guns, most of them with no issues. I have guns that were sub 100 bucks, and guns that were more than 1500. My favorite is my 400$ Taurus PT92. I sold the Baretta 92 after i bought the Taurus. It is higher quality in my opinion and it is a tack driver all the way out to 25yd

I've been infected by gun snobs to a certain extent. Outside of the little Ruger and my old Glock 22 which I use as a nighstand gun, the remaining pistols are my Sig 1911s and my CZs, topping out with the Shadow. That thing is a beast.

I love CZ. I got in on the ground floor and bought two of them before they got pupular when they were only 400 bucks. I sold them last year for over 800 each and bought a m1garand and a springfield armory 1911.

Get a Mini-30 instead.

Shoots very similar to the 14 with added punch, while still being a great 100 yard truck gun.

Don't go after-market with the mags, though. If they aren't factory Ruger 5 or 20 rounds, they'll be a headache.

I bought a M1A years ago. Love it, but it is a bear to lug around. Accurate as all get out though. I had a First Sergeant down at Fort Hood in the late 70s who bought a mini 14....dumbass got drunk one night, pissed off his German Wife and she tried to shoot him with it. Damn near succeeded...shot right through a shirt he was wearing. Thankfully, he had his shirt untucked...went right through the bottom of the shirt and into the wall.

He sold it the next day. Never took another drink.

That one makes me smile....years ago, in a fit of stupid, I bought a S&W SW9M for an ankle holster.

Most worthless piece of shit gun I ever owned. God did I hate that damned thing. I thought about selling it, but I wouldn't do that to my worst enemy....damn that thing was junk...it's sitting in my safe where it has been for the last 15 or se years.

Question, wasn’t the original M14 a .30-06 gun? The newer M1A is .308, correct?

The original design (the M1 garand and M1 carbine) was the only 30-06 i believe. The m14 was designed to be able to accept the 7.62 nato cartridges which became the 308Win when introduced to the public market.

The M1A that Springfield makes for consumer market is available in a 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor

I know the M1 Garand was .30-06 but I thought its replacement was also, originally, .30-06 (the M14) but you are saying the M14 has always been .308Win.

I'm pretty sure the M14 was always in .308/.762. My M1A certainly is.
