I know it seems very early to be saying this, but I think you can just go ahead and lock in the top 3 teams and their picks. It seems very obvious at this point.
1. New York Jets- Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
The Jets have now blown their 2 best opportunities to win a game. I think they finish 0-16 barring a miracle. I know people think Lawrence might pull an Elway/Eli, but they said the same thing about Burrow last year. The Jets will get a new HC (possibly EB) and they’ll end up with Lawrence at the end of the day.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars- Justin Fields, QB, Ohio St.
The Jags can afford to lose a game and still hold the #2 pick. Like the Jets, I don’t think they even win another game. QB is also the obvious pick for this team and I actually think they’re the most likely destination for EB because they already have weapons on offense and key pieces on D.
3. Cincinnati Bengals- Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon
The Bengals are absolutely fucked for the rest of the season. I also don’t really see them winning another game, but unlike the Jags and Jets there are a couple winnable games left on their schedule. They just have the feel of a team that lost all hope the second their QB and leader went down yesterday. If they end up with the #3 pick like I expect, this is a no-brainer. Sewell is arguably the best player in the draft and there’s no way they pass on him after what just happened to Burrow in a game where their OL was getting destroyed. [Reply]

Anything less than that and I go back to school
The problem is, how do you know who's picking first next season? It may be the Jets or Jaguars again. What if it's the Lions or that team in D.C? There's a lot of terrible franchises in the league bound to be picking high. There's also the danger of getting injured in school.
If I'm Lawrence, I feel confident enough I can turn around any franchise. Guys like Burrow or Mayfield weren't scared to play for the Browns or Bengals.
Also, athletes generally like playing in big cities. I don't know Lawrence personally so maybe I'm way off, but I'd be thrilled to be the top pick and be in New York. Bring it on. [Reply]

Exactly.
When is the team picking #1 overall not god awful? [Reply]

This. Lawrence will be one of, it not the biggest star in the city the second he is drafted. Also, if he makes them respectable he'll be a huge get for companies. Pulling in the endorsements like 5 head Manning back in the day.
Jets have a lot of picks and as been mentioned have a great, young LT. They get Lawrence and will trade Darnold for another decent pick I'm sure. Honestly, I think that's where EB ends up. You get someone smart in there and you can do some dmg with that team. [Reply]

Yep, One of the main reasons ShEli wanted to go to the Giants was the market, (Ad money). Other was ownership.
Lawrence will be rooting against the Jets until they draft him. [Reply]

Getting drafted by a NYC team could easily mean another 100 million in his bank account in just endorsements. All he has to do is get them to .500 or so and we'll be seeing him on TV all the time (probably will anyway) selling everything you can think of. [Reply]

He's slow with his reads but he can get away a little of that early on. He's not a sure thing like Burrow or Lawrence, but at worst he's a solid enough running QB... at best he could become a bigger Kyler Murray. His upside is pretty tremendous. [Reply]
It seems like year after year AFC teams keep nabbing the top talent at QB. Kyler Murray was an exception. NFC teams sign free agents and make trades. Would be interesting to see average age of a starting QB in AFC vs NFC. [Reply]

I'm pretty skeptical of Ohio State QBs in general, but then again nobody thought Texas Tech could produce an NFL QB until Patrick came along... [Reply]

Yea Im kind of getting annoyed with all of the good young QBs ending up in the AFC. [Reply]

It won’t really change the average age if the Jets and Jaguars (both have young QBs) each go with the first round QB, but it will definitely improve the quality.
We are living in the Golden Age of the NFL QB with Patrick Mahomes as our QB. [Reply]
