Trump administration may not hit 2020 border wall goal, official says
Ted Hesson

Morgan said that 93 miles of wall had been built so far during the Trump administration. At least 90 miles of that replaced existing structures, according to CBP figures - although Morgan argued during the briefing that all barriers built under Trump should be considered "new."

On the US side, so now they’ll be given an immigration lawyer to push for release into the States which will be granted

I don’t go that far and there is truth to the fact that DC doesn’t want to build a big beautiful wall and curb immigration.

That being said, as Laura pointed out, his 2016 rhetoric on immigration isn’t matching his policies and what he’s saying now.

It's WaPo, so skepticism is warranted, but

resident Trump is preparing to divert an additional $7.2 billion in Pentagon funding for border wall construction this year, five times what Congress authorized him to spend on the project in the 2020 budget, according to internal planning figures obtained by The Washington Post.

The Pentagon funds would be extracted, for the second year in a row, from military construction projects and counternarcotics funding. According to the plans, the funding would give the government enough money to complete about 885 miles of new fencing by spring 2022, far more than the 509 miles the administration has slated for the U.S. border with Mexico....

How many pesos to US dollars is $7.2 Billion? If MEXICO would have paid for TRUMP'S wall.

There are a lot of statistics Mark A. Morgan, acting U.S. Customs and Border Protection commissioner, uses to show how Trump policies have helped to cut illegal immigration into the United States.

But there are two that he feels really make clear the victory his agency has had in the past year, and he highlighted them in a small meeting Tuesday.

First is daily apprehensions, a number that hit 4,600 at the height of the latest crisis in May. That has now dropped to 1,300.

What’s more, he said, the 21-daily average is below 1,000, a 78% cut. “That’s a dramatic reduction,” he said, in updating the numbers released last week.

Then there are the numbers of illegal immigrants “in custody.” That was a horrific 20,000 in May for an agency that has just 4,000 beds.

Now a quarter of those beds are unused.

“We were having those conversations back then about how the system was overwhelmed, there was overcrowding. We’re just not experiencing that now,” Morgan said...

4 more years and he'll definitely stem the tide. It's an awakening, the influx of all immigration is next.

Yeah because a wall is the only solution to secure a border.

Why would you need two ladders to get down? And even if they did need two ladders, they're desperate enough to cross the border, you think carrying an extra ladder is going to stop them? :-)

  1. You need a ladder to get up.
  2. You need a ladder to get down.
  3. You don't want to be swinging a ladder around while straddling the top of a 30 foot fence, because a fall isn't gong to be any fun.

And, yeah, having to carry heavy ladders for miles, over rough and/or soggy terrain is going to be a problem for them.

It's a good start, but I agree that flame throwers and stocking the Rio Grande with alligators would be great next steps too. Plus, what else would we spend the money on?
