Nzoner's Game Room>UPDATE: Ford to 49ers for a 2020 2nd round pick. Official.
Dante84 06:19 PM 03-12-2019

More trade news: The #Chiefs are deep in talks with the #49ers on a trade for star pass-rusher Dee Ford, sources say. Things have escalated and this could get done by the end of the night. Ford needs to work out a new contract with SF, which is a big piece of this.

The trade is essentially agreed to — Ford for a 2020 2nd round pick. That assumes the #49ers get a deal done with Ford. https://t.co/g4tYK2tWFh

Things looked dark when Pat got Erving'd against the Colts, but it was ALWAYS a good idea to trade Ford.

Or let Ford walk.

Or just kind of wake up one day to find that Dee Ford has mysteriously disappeared.

I would have been fine with any of those scenarios. It just so happened we capitalized and ended up landing the best one.

Which by the way is looking worse and worse with every signing. We're paying Mathieu more per year than Earl Thomas is getting from the Ravens.

I forgot all about this wonderful poster, this post shows his beautiful .1000 batting average.

For as much as I hated on the guy 2 years ago, I actually feel sorry for him. His body just isn't up for the game of football. I hope he has a good contingency plan.
I don't think anyone hated Ford as much as you. It was kind of annoying when it spread to every thread- But history has proven you were right. You called your shot and hit a Grand Slam. Ford has been a cap eating bench warmer due to his injuries, just as you predicted. Bravo! :-)

He cost us a SuperBowl and then had to watch us win one without him- that is what you call Karma! :-)

I very rarely call a shot like I did against Ford. One, I'm far from perfect when it comes to football analysis and two, I don't often have strong feelings about players either way.

This was just one of those cases that I knew enough about the player and his history that I was just absolutely sure, it would continue to be an issue.

So this one time, I was right. I think Tamba Hali being drafted was the last time I was this right. That was 12 years ago. LOL

Lmao Im so glad we don't have this turd anymore, but how I don't think I've seen someone with 6.5 sacks and only 14 tackles in a season. I bet he's released after the season.

He always seemed like a good dude, but he’s made of glass.

That doesn’t work well when you’re 255 lbs and get folded up by guys that weight 300+ all season.

Glad he’s the 49’ers financial problem

Well, I was completely wrong about Ford and have egg on my face for it. I always thought he was a nice guy, high character and had talent. I let my feelings for the "Individual" cloud my evaluation of the "football player", which was a mistake the Chiefs made with Berry and others. I have a habit of taking the Homer approach and trying to see things in a positive light- when the Evidence of his injury history was right there. I am glad the Chiefs were able to look at it as you did- a Business decision and not tie up valuable cap money with this guy. It would have been a backbreaker that might have kept us from signing Jones.

When it comes to Chiefs players, I actually tend more towards "homer" myself. Ford is just one of those guys I was very passionate about.

It’s a real shame the last back surgery didn’t fix his back problem to the point of being able to be available more.

I’m glad we moved on and got a premium pick for him in the process.

Back surgery generally doesn’t fix back injuries long.

He's probably cut after this season. His restructure makes it a little more iffy but they'd save 6 mil against the cap by cutting him. And probably due it as a post June 1st to spread it out over 2 years.

Only problem is it already cost them DeForeest Buckner. Maybe Kinlaw becomes that type of player eventually, but there’s no guarantee of that.

Best you can hope to do is buy yourself some time (usually), but gravity demands its debts to be repaid eventually, and most of the time it’s not before that bill comes due.
