Snyder's Man of Steel, which rebooted the Superman franchise, has grossed north of $600 million worldwide since it hit theaters this June.

According to two sources with knowledge of the movie, Warner Bros. intends to announce the news at its Comic-Con International panel Saturday morning. Said a Warner Bros. spokesperson, “We don’t comment on rumors regarding these properties.”

“Man of Steel” director Zack Snyder is expected to reunite with screenwriter David S. Goyer and star Henry Cavill for the new film. It’s unlikely Christian Bale will step back into the bat suit, as the actor has indicated publicly that he has moved on from his days as Bruce Wayne.

“Man of Steel” producer and “Dark Knight” trilogy director Christopher Nolan is expected by some to produce the project, but the exact nature of his involvement is unclear.

The move marks the culmination of years of effort on the part of Warner Bros. and DC Comics to bring their superheroes together in a similar fashion to their primary competitor Marvel, which successfully combined its superheroes into a $1.5-billion box-office hit with “The Avengers.”

In the comic world, the two heroes are teaming up in a new series, “Batman/Superman,” by writer Greg Pak and artist Jae Lee.

That's a pleasant, simple, and direct way for him to address the rumors, certainly.

As for Wan and the other guy, that's just ludicrous. "ONOZ, the last DC movie only made three quarters of a billion dollars worldwide, I'm not sure I want to do this movie for them..."
If they were expecting the box office numbers to be on par with Avengers then it underperformed pretty bad. That would be a stupid barometer for them to use but it was an "ensemble" cast superhero movie with arguably their top 3 heroes.

It could have easily outperformed Avengers or at least been on par. They just had to do a better job with the movie. Everyone wanted to see this just as bad as the new Civil War coming out. They needed it to be a stellar movie and with all the money and names put into it, it should have been. They ****ed it up by having crappy writers and a crappy director.

I think Civil War will break some numbers at the box office. If it doesn't I will be surprised.

Sounds like Affleck is making a power grab to take control of the DC Universe. Probably for the better.

right now, it takes more producers to fund a film. used to be 10 or 12 networks would make 3n or 4 movies a year. now three companies make a couple of blockbusters each. Hardcore Harry is a movie worth a decent budget. it was plenty full of plot and action yet a slumber like martian wasted money.

Amen to that.

Finally saw it last night. Some parts I enjoyed, but the majority of the movie I just didn't care for. I knew it wasn't all that good going into it, but I was still disappointed.

And it's been said a million times already....

"You must....save....Martha...."

"What?!? Why are you saying that name?!?!......Oh, ok let's be friends."

Ugh.

I think it's pretty sad that I remember pretty close to nothing about the actual fight between Superman and Batman.

That should have been an iconic fight for the ages with lots of great moments. But nyet.

Spoiler!

It should have been over in 2 minutes. All Superman had to do was grab him and fly into space and throw him... But yeah the fight was nothing special and far too quick.

The Doomsday fight was much better.

Zack Snyder is a crazy person.

I love how Zack obviously has no real way to comprehend the psychological trauma an event like that would have, but ZOMG HOW SHOCKING WOULD THAT BE AMIRITE?!

That's a very interesting take. I never really thought about it, but it makes total sense. I mean, I enjoy Snyder's work; loved "300", loved "Watchmen", and even "Sucker Punch" was a beautiful failure to watch. But Snyder's vision IS pretty evident and I'm not sure his dark take really works for DC Comics stuff. Nolan was dark and gritty but also technologically fun and had some light humor in places. The Marvel stuff is pretty coherent in that it's also fun and great to watch while also being serious. Joss Whedon ran an entire series ("Buffy") with that attitude. I do understand that Batfleck's older incarnation follows closer to the Miller work but even in Miller's work I don't remember Batman killing people or branding people and, without the backstory to really explain that, the Snyder version rang hollow. (Sure, we who know the comics understand what may have happened, but a quick shot of a Robin costume painted up by the Joker doesn't exactly convey things. Maybe in the extended version of the movie it would've been less jarring to suddenly have Batman be a bit off the deep end.) Pretty sure the powers-that-be will make sure to keep Snyder on a short leash after "BvS" and I can't see them allowing sex and death on the scale Snyder seems to like, and maybe they can get him to inject enough Marvel-like fun to make the subsequent films better, but honestly I don't see any of the DC films doing the kind of numbers Marvel's do. Certainly not the numbers that Nolan's films did.
