Plenty of other teams have lost multiple starters for extended periods of time.

You look at other teams in the divison. The Broncos have lost Chubb for the season. The Chargers have lost their best defensive player in James for 3/4 of the season plus multiple other players.

Injuries are not an excuse. If anything, the Chiefs injury situation is nothing bad when you know players will be returning.
