Intravenous antibiotics, just fill the bag with every antibiotic you have and pump it in there for 10 days nonstop. Doctors are tentative with infections far too often.

Yeah. There was Lidocaine. But the packing shit had some shit on it that smelled like hell (I should have looked. I used it for a month) and then the gauze that went over the top had some ointment on it until it quit goo-ing shit out. [Reply]

When I was 10, the last of my permanent teeth was pushing it's way up, but the baby tooth above it didn't get loose. For months I had felt a lump on my gum, but it didn't hurt, and being 10, I didn't bother to mention it to anybody. Then something ruptured, and it got infected. The right side of my face quickly swelled up to the size of an orange, and holy fuck did it hurt. My mom took me to the emergency room, and I ended up hospitalized for a week. The doctors told her that in another 24 hours the infection would have likely killed me. [Reply]
Compound fractures are a bitch for that very reason. I hadn't heard if the bone broke the skin but it sure sounds like it. Evidently that's incredibly common anytime there's an actual compound fracture and the bone is exposed to all the shit we have floating around in the air.
