Players have a chance to make millions while owners are reaping in billions.

He's not wrong in that assessment.

Where both he and Chris missed (surprisingly) is that the money not paid to Mahomes isn't just put into the owner pockets, it's distributed to players such as Kelce and Jones etc. I waited for Chris to hit Florio with that rebuttal but it never came.

And Florio is also not wrong in saying that it's not Mahomes' job to manage and draft. Veach and Reid etc are paid millions every year.

Mahomes is chasing legacy. He's in a unique situation. So he takes a pay cut. He's going for greatest of all time, not just get paid and retire. But for every other damn player, they'd be a fool to not chase the bag.
Mahomes probably makes more endorsement money by winning Super Bowls than he could make in salary if he held out for the max and crippled the team. Even if you look at it purely from a financial POV, it still makes sense for him to give a team friendly deal.

Also for some players maybe Super Bowls really are more important than money. They've got enough to be comfortable for the rest of their lives.

Is Florio arguing that all players should to want to play on a dysfunctional team with no future like the Texans for $60M guaranteed vs. $55M guaranteed with a great team like the Chiefs? That's stupid. Plenty of players would rather take a little less to be happy.

What I take issue with is the idea that Mahomes should be criticized for not taking more money. It’s none of Florio’s damn business what Mahomes wants to do with his money or how much he wants to make.

If other QBs are getting screwed because Mahomes is leaving money on the table then maybe they should get better so they have the kind of leverage Pat currently has when it comes to dictating the market.

But Pat’s contract and his bag and how he chooses to allocate his money around the roster is no one’s business but his own.

And the truth is, his contract didn't hamper them one bit. His contract didn't put a cap on QB contracts thereafter as Florio implied it would.

Mike Florio can suck my ass.

He already did the other QB’s a favor by getting $45M per year in new money when the biggest salary was $35M per year at the time. So Patrick forced the market to instantly jump 30% back in 2020. The other QB’s are benefiting from it as we see more and more contracts rolling in at $45-50M per year. Patrick could have gone with $35M or less and that would have given the other QB’s much weaker leverage over the last few seasons.

Dak Prescott is a good example. He argued to Dallas that he’s not as good as Mahomes, but he wanted $40M per year which was $5M per year short of Mahomes’ deal. If Mahomes chose to simply go with the market price of $35M in 2019-2020, a guy like Prescott ends up with around $32M per year instead of $40M per year.

I believe it was Romo or maybe even Brady that said the exact opposite for quarterbacks and for precisely the reasons you stated.

The money will be spent. The NFL has a hard ceiling and a hard floor. The amount of money spent on players in any given year is almost pre-ordained. So what Mahomes and any other QB demanding huge money does is simply takes money from other guys. Maybe it's a shell game where they have to let a player walks to then goes to some other team but then THAT team is spending money on someone that they'd have spent on someone else.

The money doesn't go up or down as much as it goes side to side.

But what that random QB said was he felt he had a duty to take less than he could've because he KNEW his career would be two or three times as long. He had so many years to make money in the league whereas his teammates were going to be lucky to get a 2nd contract after their rookie deal.

There's a smart way to say this and then there's Mike Florio, so I'm guessing he said it in some vaguely unintelligible way that confused people. So either he said something retarded in substance or he said something intelligent in substance but retarded in form. In either event - fuck Florio.

If "other QBs are getting screwed" that will only serve to ensure that other WRs, TEs, OL and DL will get paid.

It changes where/how the pie is sliced but it doesn't shrink the damn pie.

Again - this is pretty straightforward shit.

Here's Corn Dog mic'ed up. Interesting with Kelce telling Toney to stay under control. Like you don't need to juke yourself out of your shoes on this one.

That’s something I hope they can help Toney with over time. The jukes are a factor in his injury problems. Maybe a bit more cautious approach on the juking can help him stay healthy.

Right after Kelce made his move inside he looked over his shoulder to find the 'mark' and as soon as he saw the safety still trying to get back, he knew it was a score.

He didn't watch the play - he looked for the read key and knew it went to plan.

These guys were just absolutely locked in.

I saw some dude with the Giants saying Toney doesn't have weird hamstrings or muscles he's just lazy and doesn't train hard enough to be prepared properly.
