Man, and he just had a release yesterday saying that he wouldn't be able to attend the upcoming Negro League appreciation game. "Don't move as well as I used to..."
Absolute legend. Guys from the era are getting fewer and fewer with every passing year. What a life and career. One of the true immortals of the game.
RIP

I got to see the last portion of his career. Even went to a Mets game at Shea Stadium to watch him play with my best friends growing up, who were massive Mets fans and still are.
That guy was larger than life in the NY area.
The NY sports scene in the early 70's was incredible with Willie Mays, Tom Seaver, Joe Namath, Walt Frazier, Willis Reed, Earl Monroe, Howard Cosell, Muhammad Ali / Joe Frazier.
One of a kind and one of the greatest. RIP Willie.
