How's Sweden doing? Haven't been paying much attention to them recently.

Great news from moderna today. 95% efficacy. 11 total cases in vaccine arm and all mild cases

So it prevents serious illness. That’s an end to this whole ordeal. Great news

It is great fucking news.

Monday vaccine news from @moderna_tx

Trial has accrued 196 events

185 in placebo, 11 in vaccine = 94.1% efficacy

30 severe cases in placebo, 0 in vaccine = 😃😃😃

No severe adverse events

Shouldn't an FDA advisory group when dealing with something critical like this, uh.... try to meet as soon as possible?

Like... earlier than December 17th?

Could be that there's still shit they have to do before that takes place, but the way it's worded, it sounds like, "Well, our little monthly board meeting is in 3 weeks, so let's just mark it down on that meeting's agenda under 'new business' right after we resolve switching staff popcorn day from Tuesday to Friday."

You would think. They are scheduled to meet on Dec 10 for the Pfizer vaccine. Ahhh...according to this press release they have to publish this in the Federal Register for comments. Plus they have to have all the data from the company.

It does sound like that, and I think it would behoove them to use clearer language. However, when pharmaceutical companies submit data for review, it is a literal mountain of data. Nowadays it's mostly, if not entirely, digital. A colleague told me when they worked in pharmaceutical research years ago, they would rent a semi to load the paperwork and have it delivered that way.

Why can’t this country mobilize like WWII and produce/use the vaccine in a short period of time?

Leadership for something like that starts at the top.

The moderna one is extra big news to me. The storage and transport requirements on the Pfizer one are a bit extreme. I can't see it being readily available in rather remote rural areas or third world countries, etc.

Production is tough. If we wanted to have it ready to roll out to everyone now, we needed to mass produce back in July.

Economically that’s tough to make that much and it not workout but for what it is, probably would have been worth it

Wouldn't that still be up to the States?

At some point with something like this, the reward is too large for the federal government not to step in and just handle it
