Nzoner's Game Room>2019 Free agency Thread
O.city 03:24 PM 02-05-2019
We don't really have one of these yet, so figured we could use this as a place to discuss potential free agent acquisitions and what we would like to look for them to bring in.

If any of you guys are interested, heres a good place to do some research.

Yeah. Hard rebuilding the entire defense in a must win year is a great idea.

Assuming this is true, the #Chiefs will have to hold on to Berry’s entire $16.5M cap figure until June 1st, after which they’ll take on $6.95M of dead cap in 2019, & another $8M in 2020. Tough move both from a football & business standpoint.

@ProFootballTalk
Per source, the Eric Berry release comes with a post-June 1 designation. That reduces the cap charge for 2019 by $8 million, pushing it to 2020.

Hopefully nothing that they can't pivot away from in a single off-season.

There are way too many unknowns with this scheme and this staff right now to tie our hands long-term, especially when you're left sifting through scraps.

Maybe someone like Darby who could be a good long-term risk that may come at a slight discount. But man I don't want to see them tying themselves into someone like Ansah. Golden on a deal you can get out of in a couple seasons might be fine.

Cause a defense built around those guys was really getting it done.

its quickly becoming apparent the fan base thought this team was a new DC and few players away and that's not how Veach views it.

Like I said I think they should be looking hard at Jamie Collins, I'd kinda flip a coin on Darby and Verrett based on years and money etc and go with one of them...after that I think Golden on a deal that is really like a 2 year deal wouldn't be bad.

Think it might be a good idea to look for a guy to man the slot like Tate or Kendall Wright if they are coming cheaply....

But really lets aim for some solid contributors that fit the scheme to take this defense to a solid level.
