Media Center>Ed Harris takes Top villain role in HBOs "Westworld" reboot

Sweet. Loved this film when I was a kid. It's ripe for a reboot.

Doesn't sound like he's playing the Yul Brenner role though

Ed Harris is coming to series TV: The Abyss and Apollo 13 actor has signed on as the Big Bad in HBO’s Westworld reboot.
The four-time Oscar nominee’s character is called The Man in Black, and is described as “the distillation of pure villainy into one man.” He joins previously cast star — and fellow series television newcomer—Anthony Hopkins, along with Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, and Shannon Woodward.

The Warner Bros.-produced sci-fi pilot produced by J.J Abrams, Jerry Weintraub, and Bryan Burk updates Michael Crichton’s 1973 classic film about a theme park where androids fulfill dark human desires. Harris’ description might sound like he’s playing the Yul Brynner killer-cowboy robot role, but it seems like actor Rodrigo Santoro was tapped for that part—and online production rumors suggest The Man in Black is actually a human character who sadistically abuses the androids.

Harris will soon be seen the feature film Run All Night, starring opposite Liam Neeson and Joel Kinnaman. Harris won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Emmy for his work in HBO’s Game Change.

That Angela had one epic turd-cutter in those tight jeans, . . . right before she

Spoiler!

I fear it will haunt my dreams for all eternity.

And next week's episode looks to be the, by now, trademark 'game changer' for the narrative. Won't detail further to avoid spoiling, and avoid the preview [attached below] if you want to see it unspoiled next week.

Spoiler!

avoiding spoilers but, this weeks episode moved the plot line along very nicely. Starting to get a better idea of where this is all heading and what roles these people play in them.

Best episode yet.

Love this show but they are starting to jump the shark a little in terms of the hosts being able to outmaneuver, outfight and outshout trained commandos and everyone else.

I like former saloon sluts with guns as well as the next guy but either those aren't real commandos or...

And as far as destroying the cradle and all of their replacements in a move to further their existence...that's a bold move Cotton let' see if it pays off.

There are already A.I. that can do millions more calculations per second than us on the best path forward. Their aim would be perfect. Their judgement would be better on how to achieve their goal.

Jump the shark? A.I. has already surpassed us in 2018. What makes you think the future A.I. is dumber than what already exists today?

AI is currently NOT theater actionable for individual actors nor future force warrior ready.

I think what bothers me more than the robots suddenly having high level field ops and weapons training laid into them by who-knows-who is just how untrained and flat-out horrible the supposed commando troops are. It's like they were pulled off the street and given a gun and a flashlight.

I think the answer is pretty simple; watch any action movie and the bad guys are always terrible shots. I suppose there are plenty of openings since they are terrible at their jobs. It must be like The Matrix, just download the ability and it's there.

Where is this AI that has surpassed us in 2018? As far as I know, the *maybe* instruction hasn't been written yet.

You're right. Though I don't see the commandos as bad guys, it's the rogue hosts who are the bad guys for me.
I really like the show and don't look for faults in it. I'll keep trying to overlook that fact that the best-that-money-can-buy commandos are just stormtroopers without the white suits.

Sorta right; it depends on the perspective. From the company's standpoint, the hosts are the bad guys however the company has created something that can think and feel for itself and doesn't like how it is being treated. If the commandos simply took out the hosts, there wouldn't be much of a show to put on.

I haven't been watching the show, I thought season one was interesting however like Game of Thrones, it just got repetitive to me and not worth the time. The whole idea of Bernard not knowing what he was and then killing someone he cared about (programmed to care about?) started my loss of interest. With all of the technology available, no one notices that Bernard isn't human?

"Sorta right"? You the final arbiter on that are you?
You don't watch the show but you know what's going on?
GoT got repetitive?
I see where you got your name.

As if the Cradle would be the only place its backed-up too. They would have redundant options. My theory is this isn't the first time this has happened. And as for the AI fighting so good, think of them like a "hive mind" that's how they can time their movements.

Also remember that "Wyatt's" men had their PAIN programs turned off. (Season 1)

the software is ready. What year does this show take place?

It’s Sci-Fi, they get libertys with reality anyway.

Yeah I'm guilty of treating it like a documentary there. Can't enjoy a story that way. I think it's because they quit showing the naked ladies.
