I have chili on the stove now, with beans. I just got done rubbing down the slab of baby back ribs I picked up today.

I think he has tried to thread the needle between true Texas chili and some southwestern stew.

Prefers to consume the latter, but is anal about the terminology regarding the former.

I don't think I've ever said that. But hell, I'm getting old, so maybe I did?

I like beans in chili more often than not, and I have no problems calling chili with beans "chili."

I do recognize that traditionally "Texas" chili doesn't have beans.

I'm not trying to thread any needle. I'm using an ATK recipe titled "Texas chili" that calls for two cans of pinto or kidney beans. Regardless, I was going to add beans anyway. And still gonna call it chili.

Not trying to put words in your mouth, and not using 'thread the needle' in a derogatory manner. But SOMEONE made the disinction between chili and SW stew [or some other phrase], and you're the food dude.

I could totally be wrong. :-) I just recalled seeing it.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Don't want to dig through 20 threads to prove it.

I don't think I've ever used the phase "SW stew." :-)

I really don't think that was me. I even use beans in the chili recipe I won't give out that I've been making for 15 years.

What I personally remember was "No true chili has beans in it. It's not the definition of chili." Again, I could totally be wrong.

Buzz's basic chili, nothing fancy but it's a recipe I can remember in my head;

1 pound ground beef, browned and drained
1 package of chili seasoning
1 can of diced tomatoes and green chilies
1 can of stewed tomatoes
2 cans of chili beans
1 can of black beans (drained)
Couple splashes of Worcestershire sauce
Couple squirts of mustard
Heaping tablespoon of sugar

Been simmering about two hours, flame away.

This thread from at least two years ago, I supported beans in chili.

And BigMeatballDave turned me around on pinto beans. Gave them another shot after this thread and changed my tune.

Maybe Laz that called it stew? Except he was referring to chili without beans being like stew.

This slow cooker chili recipe is weird. It doesn't call for me to brown the meat. I'm gonna throw it on the grill before I cut it up.
