Nzoner's Game Room>How Many 1st Rounders for YOU to trade Mahomes?
Pablo 07:05 AM 09-22-2018
It's a simple question.

Looks like we have an absolute stud at QB and that's the most important position in the league. However, if 'X' team came at you as Chiefs GM and offered you 'x' future 1st round picks for Pat, what does it take for you to move him?

Everything has it's price right?

Pablo....

I would trade my 1st born to keep Pat.

I wouldn't trade him at all. There is nothing as valuable as an Uber franchise QB.

I suppose, if we drafted a QB next year and he also shows franchise QB talent i would consider trading Mahomes. It would take a lot to pry him from my cold, dead hands though. It would take three 1st round and three 2nd round picks IF we already had his replacement on the roster. All 6 picks would have to be in the next 2 years though so they would need to have picks from another team.

Let's see:

Last 1st round QB - 1983.

2018 - 1983 = 35

35 1st round picks. That's my starting price.

I've waited my whole life for a quarterback like this. I'm not dealing him.

Since 2000-2016...there have been 2 generational QBs out 45 picks the first round.

Man, the NFL has been in a serious QB slump...So KC would need 22 1st round picks for Mahomes.

I think Luck still has a pretty good chance to be generational.

I think so too.

He has something special when surrounded by talent.

Let’s say some team gave up 10 first round picks for him.

We would have to wait 10 years to claim our entire reward for him, while that team gets 10 years of Mahomes.

We would then hit on maybe half of those picks. At least one or two of the ones we hit on would have injury issues. So we’re really left with 2-4 really good players for a possible generational talent at QB.

Odds are we wouldn’t even draft the great players in consecutive years, so they wouldn’t all hit their prime at the same time. Some would be on the way up while others decline. We would never see the total benefit at once.

There’s no amount of picks you would accept.

If we can get a top 15 pick for him, you have to make the trade. A top 15 first round pick could be anything, even a franchise QB! You'd be as crazy as a fox not to do it.
