Nolan and Zack Snyder, definitely an interesting team. There are already rumors now that Zod is going to be the villain.

I have to say I'm excited that it "appears" they aren't going to go totally out of left field and do something stupid and out of character for Superman.

Here and there. There were a few really cool things in it. (great fight with Zod, awesome effects, loved the more sci-fi take) I was just distracted by how disappointed I was that WB missed again and it will now be years until I see someone do this story justice.

I'm not singling any one person out. Its just lately that people have gone into crusty old movie critic mode this last year and it is getting old.

People need to stop comparing this Superman to past superman. The whole point was to update the character and I think they did that well. Was the movie perfect? No, not even close. But it was very entertaining and a good reboot.

By far, this is the best origin story movie of any comic book hero that Ive ever seen.

Normally, in an attempt to tell the two people out in the audience who don't already know the origin, how this character came to be who he is, a lot of action is sacrificed.

Im not a fan of Superman. I only saw Man of Steel because it was a father's day gift from my sister in law who sent all the men in the family to the theater.

That being said, I thought this movie was very, very good. I went into the film expecting a disaster on par with Superman Returns, thinking the only entertainment I would get out of the next two and a half hours would be compiling a laundry list of screw-ups that happened this time around.

That didn't happen. I saw only two instances in the entire film that might ruffle some fanboy feathers. Not that this is a bad thing, I am 100% behind filmmakers staying true to their source material if they are going to make a film that is going to rake in the majority of their cash hand over fist from fans of said material.

Some people may not be able to get past those two instances, and I wouldn't hold it against them if they decided to just flip the bird and say "no." "That's not Superman"

For me though, I thought it was a great film and I ended up really liking Kal-El as a character in this movie. He wasn't portrayed as this douchey, superpowered boyscout for the entire time. You got to see that he had several human elements to his character. He got pissed off. He wanted to cut loose on people that deserved it. He was a relatable character in this film that he never was to me in the comic books.

The couple of instances that deviated and stand out, I was fine with because I was never big fans of them in the first place. Of course, Im referring to

Spoiler!

I thought it was a great movie, and I find myself looking forward to a sequel.

Its something he does all the time in COMIC BOOKS. This was not a comic book. It was never intended to directly mirror a comic book. What the comic version superman does has NO bearing on what this superman does.

The Batman in the Chris Nolan series isn't a direct mirror of the comic book batman, does that piss you off as well?

Batman Begins = Batman Year One
Dark Knight = The Killing Joke
DKR = Knightfall

Those movies were based off of comic books. They took liberties with them that I didn't mind in the least, but they were based off of comics. Other than that I agree with everything you've said in defense of Man of Steel.

They combine bits and pieces from different storylines, the ones you mentioned plus a few more. The Long Halloween was a big influence, mainly on TDK but there are elements of it in all three movies. Joker's first appearance was an influence on TDK also, and DKR is basically a combination of Knightfall, The Dark Knight Returns, and No Man's Land.

He flies in this movie. They took that directly from the comic book. He has black hair. He's from Krypton. He grew up in Smallville. It isn't a mirror of the comics, but it is obviously based on them. In MoS, he also claims to care about people but he consistently puts them at risk by throwing bad guys through buildings. I guess that makes more sense to you than adopting one more element of his character from the comics.

:-)

This has been said before. He was just thrust into his first battle with non humans. don't you think there would be a learning curve as to how to handle the situation? Don't you think it is possible that as a n00b to saving the world, he wasn't thinking straight at times?

If this were real life you would be one of those damn blowhards blaming him for all the destruction rather than thanking him for saving our world.

I mean feel free to rationalize it. I just don't buy that. Sorry.

Wait till the sequel when he's still doing it. It's just disaster porn.
