First time I ever heard of Queen or a song played was in '73 we had a really cool AM station in St. Petersburg, WFSO the big 57. They were playing "Liar" from their debut album in regular rotation and I just had to have that record. Uriah Heep was my favorite band at the time, and they sounded a little similar.
Two years later in '75, Queen was scheduled to play in St. Pete at Sunshine Speedway. I was getting psyched to go, then on the radio about 3pm the day of the show, they announced the show had been cancelled. The stage they had built for the band did not pass inspection by the county, they said the band's equipment was too heavy. This was so long ago, I thought maybe it was something I had dreamed had happened, but I went to the Queen Concerts website and found this entry:
St. Petersburg, FLat Sunshine Speedway never took place. The reason for the cancellation of this show wasn't due to any band members illness. The facility wasn't large enough or safely able to handle Queen in concert. ... Also the Vancouver gig scheduled for April 5, 1975 was cancelled because Freddie had a sore throat.
