Nzoner's Game Room>Mitchell Schwartz has surgery
siberian khatru 10:10 AM 02-24-2021

Injury Update: I’m getting surgery today. I was hoping to recover enough to get back for playoffs/Super Bowl but that didn’t happen. It’s time to address the issue. The recovery process isn’t too long, which is nice. Looking forward to a healthy 2021! #Chiefs #ChiefsKingdom pic.twitter.com/etGfSoCCd6

He's been working out with a top-flight personal trainer. It's all over his social media.

Schwartz’ prognosis makes sense to me. Back injuries are unpredictable and more doctors recommend avoiding surgery at all costs unless there’s no other choice.
Exactly.

Surgery on the back is usually the last resort, not the first.

I trust Rankin even less than I do the unseasoned and (probably rusty) Niang.

Rankin SUCKED at OT in Houston. Like... he was Cam Erving bad.

No thank you.

The Chiefs went 5-3 with Cam Erving at left tackle in 2019.

IMO, Cam Erving bad is a major upgrade from Mike Remmers bad.

This seems to confirm it.

A lot of people are going to be really unhappy this offseason.
I would be thrilled if we got Mitch back at even 75% of what he was. I’m happy LDT is coming back as well. God if we get Osemele back too?

Mitch seems like his recovery is not too long, so the only issue I’ll bitch about is Fisher not having surgery yet (unless he has) bc we need him to have as much time as possible to recover.

Not knowing the extent of Fisher's injury, it's hard to speculate on why he has or hasn't had surgery.

I wish we'd hear something soon.

If he was anywhere other than O-Line then that would be different.
Good by the opener!? Happy to place a wager on that one.

Actually I’ll add one more thing. If Veach drafts Landon Dickerson at 31 I’ll be pissed. That guy has had 3 big injuries just in college.

Please no more brokedicks

I'm going to choose to view this optimistically. I remember years back when Dontari Poe had some back issues. We were all worried his career was over but I felt like he came back and gave us fairly quality production until we parted ways.

Given Schwartz' advanced age, I feel like I'd be OK with a similar situation where he comes back and gives us a year or two. Hopefully we can use that time to find a suitable replacement.

Poe has been a JAG since those issues and Gronk has been a playoff specialist since his (those largely have been the success stories with a few exceptions). How's Michael Porter been doing in the NBA?

Schwartz as a JAG (but hopefully he’ll be back 100%) would be far better than Wylie or Remmers, though. Woof.

I don't think they'll bring Schwartz back as a starter if he's not fully capable.

The guy certainly has upside but ideally, he begins the season on the bench so that he has time to become familiar with the scheme, terminology and speed of the NFL.
What do you think he's been doing this year on the opt-out? Unless the Chiefs Medical department and training staff is totally incompetent he's been learning the offense, rehabbing his injury and doing strength training as well. When he opted out I don't think they gave him a bag of Cheetos and said "see you next spring."
