DAT was a nice weapon last year that was used in opportune moments.
The return fake in Pittsburgh, taking a handoff in Denver, the toss pass TD in LA.
There was a hole open on ST’s and it just so happens that DAT can provide more speed at RB for specialty plays.
Poor Tremon Smith. Hopefully the Bengals give him a shot...or wait...we fucking trade the motherfucker for Malik Jefferson. Pick the phone up Veach! Let’s rape the Bengals! [Reply]
Keep in mind how many snaps Thompson has seen against 1st team defenders, whether in padded practice OR preseason games.
Answer: Not many at all.
A lot of people are gonna be pissed if/when Veach tries to slide Thompson onto our practice squad. And it's possible he'll fail and Thompson will get picked up by another team. But if you're the Chiefs, the ST component you get from the 5th and 6th WR spots is way more valuable than the future potential of Cody Thompson. I know Thompson doesn't suck at ST, but it's likely the Chiefs want better than what Thompson can offer.
If Thompson survives a full year on the practice squad, he'll definitely be a part of the team the following season. Look at the value the Chiefs place on Dieter and Kemp after two full seasons-- hell, Dieter sucks balls and with his bad back and missing all of training camp and preseason, the Chiefs STILL haven't demoted him on the depth chart! Or look at Pringle. The only thing that dude has ever accomplished in the pros is a bunch of 7 on 7 highlight reels in training camp, but because he's got that year on fake IR, he's getting the benefit of the doubt over somebody who is producing well in preseason games.
