I'm bummed about Edwards, not going to be the same. This year I'm rooting for Logano & Hamlin (family bets we make all season based on two driver) and Erik Jones.

Hamlin is a big favorite of mine

Erik Jones is interesting - He won the NASCAR Truck Series last season - mostly sure.

Home from Hockey, and caught up on the DVR.

I LOVE the new format. It's really nice to see a race like this one where more than the last 10 laps matter.

I've ALWAYS thought every lap should matter, and the only way to do that is to award some sort of points per lap lead. You simply have to give the drivers incentive to not only with the race, but to win every lap, and this is a step in that direction.

If it ends up where I'd like it the race winner would get 500 points, and each lap would result in what amounts to a fraction that, when added up, would total 450 points. Then, the person with leads the most laps gets 50 bonus points.

So 1,000 points are awarded each race, with the theoretical maximum a driver could earn being all 1,000 points. But realistically nobody would ever get 100% of the points. But every lap would matter, and racers have a good reason to race for the lead every lap.

I'm stunned he didn't suggest he might try running on Hoosier tires next year. Just to piss-off NASCAR and Goodyear. But he sure did take a swing at them.

I'm sure Goodyear will suggest he run a different setup (maybe a little less camber!) so he's like the other drivers and not chewing through tires like Fat Bastard through doughnuts...

You're right though. It's not a Goodyear problem, it's a set up problem. Teams (rightfully) push the limits to get the most out of the car, but you can't pass that buck on to the tire maker and bitch about them, he should be bitching at the too aggressive set up and not crying about the tires.

Agreed...Thanks for explaining the new rules.

American tires are behind the (motor racing) times compared to F1...

With regards to the clock on repairs, I like the idea. I think they should tweak it to 5 minutes each time down pit road with a 10 or 15 minute max for the race. 5 minutes for the race is too short IMO.

According to DW, Elliott Sadler dominated the entire race on Saturday when someone wrecked him at the very end.

However, under the new format, Sadler was able to walk away with some points instead of no points.
